I do not know enough about watches to grab the historical significance of this watch, but it is simply stunning. It looks like it breathing a lot of history. And the movement is something to be enjoyed thoroughly.

As it was a Pilot Watch, Martin
My guess is that the red triangle was painted a a repere, to allow the pilot to have a visible reference.
This is a cool watch coming from the 40ies / 50ies.
