That's the name of the game ...
Only recently I was able to learn that the "film noir" style was created because the scenarios were poor and someone decided to use this style of shooting to hide it.
No "glamour" but plain and simple lack of money..

You need to shoot RAW and process the RAW files using the application that you like (Main contenders are Apple Aperture x Adobe Lightroom)
There you convert to B&W in complete control.
A PuristSPro should never shoot JPEG (lol)
