This watch is one of the watches I love deeply and on par with 5370P.But I made sure not to try them,Because they are out of my watch budget,The 5970 and 5270 are the far as I can dream for now(Even those have to wait for a while).

To answer your question, you guessed right as they are also both out of my budget. But it would be one of the two. This being said, I don't know which one I would choose between 5370P and 5204R...
Maybe the latter but quite unsure.

Getting your dream watch or grail as we may call it is something and getting the best available within your budget is something completely different. If I am set on a grail without taking money into consideration then I will not buy a watch ever.

If I should one day intend to acquire something in colored metal, this one would it be without hesitation and I really wouldn’t care that I have already the 5204P.
The winding feeling and the smoothness of the pushers are indeed outstanding and certainly unattained by 99.99999999999% of all chronographs ever produced.
But and there is only one but… if I wind the 5950 and press the pusher on the 5950, then I realize at the latest that the 5950 is the ultimate chronograph, that stands above every, really every chronograph… but to each his own

About the pushers and winding feeling, It is very interesting to notice your observations: this is maybe the consequence of the thinner caliber and the pushers position and display design (compared to the 5204 and 5270 which are different).

Thanks Mark, really enjoyed this post. In my opinion one of the most attractive references in the available range right now. What would I change? Squeeze it down to a size between 36,5 or max 38 mm, but keep the thick case. I am not a fan of the coated markers either, but after seeing your pictures and reading this post I am starting to like it more. It actually looks great on this piece. Talking split seconds. 5370P is certainly nice, but can't love it. 5959P black dial is my holy grail, but I fear I would start acting like Gollum with his ring if I ever got my hands on this piece. It is a precious little thing that 5959.
It seems we are a few to feel like this about the 5204R indeed
and I'm glad about that.
I totally see you pleasure having a smaller case but with that very unique thick feeling (something that I like in the 5930 as well). You must like the 3970 I presume
The 5370P is quite very different from Patek's classical cases and has a lot of character. This is why I'm sure not everybody will like it, regarding the case mainly. That's the kind of elements that make other people love it too of course.
This 5959 black dial is indeed a real little marvel

I love it all as you know
but I have read the comments to the manual wind perpetual calendar. perhaps the future may hold for this watch an automatic winding function. Owners wear the watch on occasion and do not set the calendar. sad but true too often.
Manual versus automatic for a PC...
that's a question every future owner should ask himself indeed. And I think that the answer will depend on how often he or she wears it.
As for an alternative automatic display, it will be interesting but will be with the loss of a part of the bridge and "open" construction work.
But I agree, if one doesn't set the Calendar because too complicated, then another complication maybe more suitable. Or a micro rotor on a Chrono-PC like the one we have in the 5078 Minute Repeater for instance?
Who knows, maybe they will one day

Fantastic report Mark. This is a very special watch that needed a special review, which you achieved as always.
The watch itself is of course beautiful, but there is something about the lugs which I am not keen on. I would prefer the lugs from the 5270. This is just my subjective opinion of course, and very likely wrong!
They have quite a wide diversity of shapes...
...when dealing with lugs but also cases, pushers, bezel etc...
I noticed these lugs were different and I'm also a fan of the 5270 or 5230's shape.
Finally, I think that these more classical lugs may look better for such a complicated watch. I think maybe that, aside from the fact bringing the 5270's lugs would have standardized the collection, the watch looks a little lighter that way.
Just how I see it of course
