interesting so the 5189G will be basically a 6119G just with the rare handcraft components- same size (39mm) and movement (hand wound)? Also, lovely collection of the rare handcraft books/ catalogues you have there
Many thanks Dauster -- the 5189 will follow the long tradition of Patek Rare Handcraft models, both in- and out-of-catalog, which have beeen powered by the *automatic* Caliber 240.
Created in 1977, Caliber 240 is arguably one of the most iconic horological movements ever produced. Along with its variations, it is currently housed in as many as 25 Patek references.
It's been the soul of most Rare Handcraft models we have seen in modern times, which include (among others) the out-of-catalog references 5075, 5077, 5086, 5089, 5177, 5189, and 5738, as well as the in-catalog 5088, 5131 and 5231 (the last two with the obvious "HU" addition for the Worldtimer complication), and again 5738!

Really appreciate your insights, is there a reason PP releases rare handcrafts with multiple refs (new 5189/ 5177)?
Or is it only one ref each year and I just got confused?
Like for any other model, a different reference number (meaning specifically the *first four* digits) normally corresponds to a substantial change in the watch that goes beyond the dial. The dial alone is indicated by the three digits after the dash.
For instance, the complete reference of the "teaser" model is 5189G-001, where "001" uniquely identifies that enamel dial (G of course stands for the metal of the case, grey gold).
Any other Rare Handcraft dial of this exact same model will be listed as 5189G-xyz (and the three digits "xyz" are often chosen at random by Patek! ;-) Year is entirely not a factor in the process

Thanks, but I guess I wasn't very clear in my question.
What I was curious about was if there is only ref. 5189 produced this year for the calatrava style watches (excluding ladies watches) or if PP produces more than one ref for the rarehandcrafts (I know that they make an ellipse of course as well) but only taking into account the round calatrava style rare handcrafts.
Nope, that is more than I can say :-) BUT, I see you are on the US West Coast, which means that for you my live Patek announcement will be on….Sunday rather than Monday!😄 (A little hint on the time we’ll go live worldwide with the new models! ;-))
PS: Note one "gap" in my collection of Rare Handcraft volumes, namely the 2020-21 issue (same gap of all Italian ADs, including our boutique in Milano! ;-)) Looking forward to picking it up this summer to "complete" this much beloved collection! :-)

My 5177G-028 and a 5089G-101 together in the metal?? I wish my friend, but chances of that ever happening are *really* slim! :-))
In all honesty, I'm not even aware of the recipient(s) of the 5089G-101 (which I couldn't disclose anyway)....but should such an incredible mini-GTG ever happen, I'll be sure to post a picture here! Cheers.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Patek offers an original set of hands on a Rare Handcraft, consistent with the spirit of the theme (see, e.g., Ref. 5077P-058 below)....but it's a detail I no doubt look forward to seeing in person! :-) Cheers.
