Independents

Ah finally a vote

 By: sham1 : March 28th, 2018-18:48
for Vianney. But I see the Gronefeld remains the popular choice. And like you, I like all four watches but only one is close to being affordable. Thank you Geo.

My mind says Credor my heart says Halter

but i d spend 50k for a PP rare handicrafts.

I am almost 100% sure that

 By: sham1 : March 28th, 2018-18:53
a PP rare handicrafts will cost a lot more than the CHF55k limit that I have placed. If I am incorrect, please PM me because I too would definitely consider one! I can see that you would prefer to buy from an established brand and your choice of the Credor is admirable. I know the movement finish is sublime and its accuracy is beyond compare but some would say that the spring drive movement does not have the character and intricacy of the Remontoire of RR. I have tried on a platinum Eichi II and I know this is a watch that goes under the radar and is a credit not just to the watchmaker but for anyone astute enough to wear it. Thank you for your reply.

you ve totally right i m sorry those starts around eur80k and upwards sorry IDK but 50was in my mind.If you read my post I ve also pointed that Halter is a strong piece too.

I only wish my budget could stretch that far

 By: sham1 : March 29th, 2018-03:02
but unless I am willing to part with some of my watches (which I am unwilling to), a Patek handicraft watch remains a dream.

50k is a sweet budget....

with so many nice choices:
1) Ludovic Ballouard upside down
2) Vianney Halter Classic 20th Anniversary
3) Christian Klings Open Version
4) Jean Baptiste Viot Paris Chronometer

I am afraid the choices are limited to the four in the photo but as per your earlier thread and with the above reply, you have chosen the Vianney. Surely a sought after and rare watch. Thank you very much for your suggestions.

My pleasure and I am excited to see what your choice will be :-) nt

Salman, I too am excited

 By: sham1 : March 29th, 2018-20:31
because this a tough field to emerge the winner in. All four watches are the holy grails of many but I think at this moment of time, the Vianney is the one I am least keen on, probably due to my conservative views on design.  I can imagine my liking the RR one day, the Remontoire the next and the Credor the day after and then repeat the process again!!!   smile

Gronefeld ...

 By: Blourenco : March 28th, 2018-12:45
But after that I would consider UJ cause it’s a poor mans KV ... 👽😀

Unfortunately Blourenco

 By: sham1 : March 28th, 2018-19:01
the UJ although falling into the price bracket does not fall into the size bracket. Nice watches though but I want a watch which has KV's level of finishing rather than compromising and arguably the RR and Credor are at least as well finished as any KV but at a more competitive price. The Gronfeld is an excellent popular choice and the finishing is arguably just below KV but possibly better than the UJ. Thank you for your reply!

Great post my friend .

But i dont have to tell you what my choice will be😉 . Although i have a deep respect for Akrivia (gorgeous movement) and VH (very unique design)and Credo my patriotic side will Choice my Grail watch , the Steel Gronefeld with a original Salmon dail 🤤 🙏🏻🤗.

Your vote I had placed automatically my friend

 By: sham1 : March 28th, 2018-19:06
even before writing this post!! And you should not blame you patriotism because I am pretty sure even if you were Swiss, being a great supporter of the independents, you would probably have chosen the Gronefeld. All these watchmakers are pleasant humble fellows and with the Gronefelds, you get double the helping! smile Thank you for the compliment and the reply. I hope when the time comes I choose correctly, if there is such a thing.

You cant go wrong with any of them imo my friend

 By: Watchonthewrist : March 28th, 2018-23:32
There all great watches , just a matter of which one gives you the most goosebumps at that time i think. If one day i could i would own them all 🙏🏻( dream collection)

I have little doubt

 By: sham1 : March 28th, 2018-23:39
that if you wanted to in the next ten years, they could all be yours! For me, I have placed a 'fancy watch' embargo on myself so only one at most. smile

You are very tough to yourself my friend .

 By: Watchonthewrist : March 29th, 2018-00:20
I never could give myself a embargo like that 😬 . The only obstacle i have to deal with is my bank account 😁

It is because

 By: sham1 : March 29th, 2018-00:51
of my depleting bank account that I have to enforce an embargo!!   smile

Not easy.

I'd search for more options.

I love the stunning Gronefeld movement, but to me the window for the speed regulator at 9 spoils the whole dial.

The Credor could be a probable winner among those in the pics.

I'd probably go for a Voutilainen anyway.

Good luck .

Thanks Vte!

Unfortunately the KV is at a different price bracket but if it wasn't, I would choose that too. But your choice of the Credor is great because that dial is too die for. One really needs to look at it under a loop to appreciate the dial and hand painted hands and hour markers. Every time you look under the loop, you are likely to see a different detail.

Duh

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : March 28th, 2018-14:39
Grönefeld of course. What else?

;-) ok I’m Dutch so what did you expect...

Arie,irrespective of your patriotism

 By: sham1 : March 28th, 2018-19:11
the Gronefeld is one heck of a watch and would take some beating even if it was not Dutch!! I love the Remontoire and Tim and Bart did say that would get in touch with me when the 25 pieces of steel come close to the end of their production. Thanks for your reply!

Yes, but the Grönefeld is a superb watch [nt]

A watch that is hard to beat

 By: sham1 : March 29th, 2018-20:50
in any price bracket!!

Hard choice...

 By: KIH : March 28th, 2018-15:00
.. I would go Akrivia.  I saw one (not this one), I met the watchmaker, and I had a very good impression.  Just my personal opinion and preference....

Good luck hunting!

Ken

Thanks Ken!

Rexhap is a terribly enthusiastic and passionate individual. I had seen all his other watches but perhaps my mindset is too conservative as none of them really appealed to me apart from the excellent movement finishing. This more conservative offering however has won me over. The problem is at this price bracket, there is some healthy competition.

Oh man what a coincidence!!

 By: sleepy_templar : March 28th, 2018-16:38
After coming back from Basel and tried a few of them, I'm struggling amongst EXACTLY the same list...

Seriously??!!!

 By: sham1 : March 28th, 2018-19:18
I am glad in a way that I did not make it to Basel this year because if any of those watches were tried on, I would be having sleepless nights for at least a week! The fact that you are deliberating on EXACTLY the same list makes me feel I am in good company and have chosen well, thank you! Let me know which you choose. The Credor and the RR are at either end of the price bracket and the Vianney to me is the dark horse with arguably the most straight forward movement but can they beat the Remontoire which is a no brainer to many!!

The Gronefeld I think.

 By: Jay (Eire) : March 28th, 2018-17:34
I'm very partial to the aesthetics and architecture of the movement.  And I think the choice of dial, while on your part maybe was to take the watch into the price zone for the comparison, is actually one of the few dials which blend well with the aperture. It doesn't stick out on this dial, which is a good thing.

I'm a big fan of the Classic, almost picked one up on a few occasion. However I am not sold on the Classic at this price range. I just don't think you get enough bang for your buck.

Jay, I thank you for your logical reply

 By: sham1 : March 28th, 2018-19:21
I too like the VH Classic but like you, I feel it does not deliver enough compared to the others. I personally prefer this dial for the Remontoire although my friend watchonthewrist would suggest the salmon dial. Something about the silver dial makes the watch more elegant and discreet in my opinion or perhaps I am just an old boring fart!! smile
