... so happy. Reading your assessment brings a huge smile across my face. You nailed every point with precision.
As a collector who is currently in the process of custom spec discussions with the master himself, I can and will say that not all of KV 's pieces speak to me. Of course the Observatoire is a masterpiece. Period! Any of the decimal repeaters (particularly the DR-9) are stealers of breath - end of story. But the new Vingt-8 PR misses the mark. And while I am mesmerized by the Sarasamon-inspired pieces (and all that they represent) seeing it up close did not move me in a way I anticipated it would.
When it comes to a relationship between master watchmaker and purist, nothing comes close to the joy a bespoke manufacturer can bring. Looking at pictures of Gary's Master Chronograph one finds strong evidence that the collaboration is a very necessary component for the independent. I suspect that Kari finds joy in the inspiration brought forth by his dedicated league of patrons.
