As a matter of fact, I DO have a mechanical emergency watch in the car ...
... but not in the daily driver's glove box. A hand-winding Glycine Incursore is stored in my offroad camper. So in case I damage, or - worse even - loose my "real timepiece", I have at least a solid and well legible watch as a backup:

When I was young and not wise about the horological marvels about me I would see going watchless as a true sign of escaping and relaxing from the time pressures of the week. Now no longer. Rather the weekend is defined by wearing watches that
I don't wear during the week either because they are too sporty or too special and dear to chance them at work. Every watch does have its place and its role so that the weekend watches do signify escape and separation from work.
