I shall exclude both financial constraints and my recent new situation so in this theoretical exercise manual wound watches become possible again... I would then vote as modern watches for PP 5370 P + Voutilainen (my Vingt-8 as it is is fine 😀). And I would give my Laurent Ferrier to my wife so that I can borrow it from time to time but I accept the rule that officially it would not be mine anymore 😉. Hehehe I obeyed the rule !

Unfortunate about the manual wind, fortunately for you though there are great automatics out there!

And for me the most beautiful automatic movement on the market (here we are talking modern watches as per your brief is certainly the micro-rotor from Laurent Ferrier. It is a real beauty and the finishing is incredible. Of course if you also consider vintage you have other beautiful options also but this was not the question was it ?

Well, I think I would go for the Romain Gauthier Logical One and a minute repeater. Why not the JLC Master Ultra-Thin Minute Repeater Flying Tourbillon 😉

Think I'd have to go with a 5078p with a black dial.
As for my second - think I'd have to go for a JLC Reverso Duo, though would be mightily distracted by Memovoxes!

5650g and 5370p. Covers most bases for me and two totally fascinating watches.

Within reason that is. Both very wearable and complement each other well.

Obviously if there are absolutely no constraints whatsoever it would be possible to dream up unobtainiums, but assuming the exercise is to name two modern pieces that are somehow realistic those two would definitely do it for me!

.....the latter wins for me as it does have that dual time capacity AND it has the stunning advanced research angle too....also, its a watch that can be worn in the pool. Yep....within reasonable parameters, those two would do it for me. A truly hard problem would be a two watch collection including modern and vintage.

or a modern five watch collection with requirement each is in a different case material....

I'm going to do some more themes later. More USEFUL criteria. The goal will be to conduct mental exercises that help us to collect and enjoy watches better!

The only problem with that is choosing which to wear in the morning. One for each wrist?

For me, the two vintage would be 3448 and 1665 Mk2........the two modern would be 5370p and 5650g......
But if i had to pick only two from all....agghhhhh.....yes, torture.......but it would be:

I think that could be the peak. Imagine this, Time travel. Buy both watches new, return to the present day. Stride the earth like a demi-god.

...and I was waiting for another to come asking the same question for 2 vintage watches only ! 2 modern + 2 vintage was hard enough, I don't think I could narrow it to 1 + 1 as mentioned in another thread... If 2 vintage only my choice would be PP 3448 + 3700 (I know not your choice since you don't like Nautilus ). If 1 + 1 only, I would disobey LOL
