Horological Meandering

It's interesting for sure. My Zeitwerk went up quite a bit due to Lange's new policies and I opted to sell it.

Because the decision process is pretty simple to me. Why did you buy the watch? Because you like it, and not because you think it’s gonna appreciate in the future. In the future if it appreciates will you sell it ? The decision is binary. Yes or no, and there a ton of reasons why you would and would not sell it. Buying watches is meant to be an enjoyment and for me and it’s the process/journey that matters. When the watch depreciates as expected, truth be told I’m not very concerned because I’ve consciously made the decision to buy it. But let’s be honest with ourselves. Some of us (including myself) don’t like to buy into something that unexpectedly depreciates, and even more so if it depreciates significantly. Because to most of us (the average man on the street) money is hard to come by and finite. And to answer your question. Does the valuation affect me? Well yes and no. I hate to lose money that’s a fact. But it’s a hobby, so the heart rules over my head. And so at the moment I’m sitting on a bunch of stuff that is ITM and a bunch that’s headed to no man’s land. Am I affected? Not really. I’m pretty cool about it.

I guess I should start by stating that, I too, have finite finances which directly affects my watch collecting journey.
