Are you a one brand kind of collector?

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 17th, 2022-17:41
I don’t think I will ever be…but I know some brands have a great range of models that spans the full spectrum.

You can get all bases covered with certain brands.

I prefer trying to collect the icons or a good representative of some brands/models to get the best out of it.

My week is off to a nice start, I think 🤔

Certainly not. I am not the kind of guy who can love only one brand. I have watches from more than 20 different brands.

Bravo, I’m still ways to go to own so many like you…but I’m happy with just 4.

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 17th, 2022-17:52

Well, I mainly have one or two from each brand, except Rolex, JLC...

 By: amanico : January 17th, 2022-19:35

Pretty much. Occasional flings . . .

. . . but essentially faithful.  And I feel a twinge of guilt every time I stray.

It's kinda like being married, in a way.

smile

Well put….now I need to think about my infidelity to Omega, lol…

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 17th, 2022-18:36

An admirable way to put it Art, even more so since there's probably nobody like you in the whole vintage Omega world, when it comes to knowledge/passion/quality of collecting!👍🥂

My education in Ω was from outstanding 'professors' - Bill S, Erich, Gator . . .

 By: Dr No : January 17th, 2022-20:07
. . . MSN, Tony C, Ben DG - which is almost like going to Harvard without paying tuition.

smile

As for passion, what comes around goes around . . . there's little that gives me greater pleasure than sharing knowledge and experience here in our community.

;-)

That is a very nice spread of beautiful watches from iconic brands. I am not a one-brand person —I am trying to curate a small collection of meaningful watches across brands.

So far — Rolex, Patek Phillippe, Panerai, and Omega. Thinking a VC or an ALS will be my next watch (or maybe a Rolex Cellini).

Of the brands you mentioned, I am tempted to add VC, especially that CdV Chrono…

Someday, hopefully when stars, priorities and funds aligned.

ahh but you already have the Omega 321? same movement but the 321 is better :)

 By: christianch : January 17th, 2022-19:45

Yes I have the Ed White 321 but watches is not all about the movement for me…

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 17th, 2022-20:10
Looks on the front, case are equally important.
I don’t need the super nice movement finishes like PD, RR or GF.
PP and ALS is very, very good enough for me.

I agree, the look is obviously very important and with your collection you are certainly on the top level of movements and

finish. You can't really go higher smile

Thank you kindly, Christian....I thought about those ooohs, aaahs of the movement finishes by the living legends...

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 17th, 2022-22:10
but after a while, you won't be looking at those polish corners, angles all the time.
I like how my watches wear, feel, and function as a wardrobe, not so much of the "inner feel good" because I have a super high end, under the radar, art piece etc.
I know it is also great to have a Simplicity, or super FPJ but I'm realistic, those are beyond my reach now and I'm not going to lust over them.

your collection is amazing! the finish of many pieces you have is second to none

 By: christianch : January 17th, 2022-22:40
Lange, Patek, Rolex, Omega no need to go into very exotic pieces just for an higher finish (and way higher price). As you already know most important is to buy what you like and stay away from the hype (anything over MSRP). I have been off the forum for a few years and I was amazed to see how your collection has evolved (remember from the Lange 1815 Honey Gold and the Omega Spectre!). A lesson can also be taken from Rolex (which is always king) closed caseback is also fine and doesn't dimish the watch.

You have great memory...it all started slowly when I got my very 1st PP in June 2014 and joining the forum...

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 17th, 2022-22:54
Then Rolex, Omega and Lange started in 2015 and rest is just addiction, lol...well, it's been a wonderful journey and I'm glad with the results so far.
I think 2022 will not be as many as 2019/21 but who knows. It is very difficult to say no to some calls smile

A nice "horizontal" way of collecting, to elect all these brands with an interesting (or even remarkable) history.....VC seems like a very natural choice within such a distinguished group! :-)

 By: FabR : January 17th, 2022-19:53

Ok then, saving up for VC and/or Breguet…

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 18th, 2022-00:35
I can already tell you my account is going negative now and pending credit card payment 🤣

I was actually replying to member Orahu ;-)) But except for Panerai in lieu of ALS, you're totally right to feel called into question here...significant brands with great historical value, of which of course VC is a most remarkable representative! :-)

Oopsy….the one small thing about the nested threads and comments are sometimes hard to see who’s replying to who 😅

I know there is indentation but when it gets to more levels, I’m lost. It’s all good information to share anyways. Cheers

Clearly many brands in my case as i dont feel i would limit myself to only one brand, no matter how good given there is so much to experience from several great offerings...

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : January 17th, 2022-17:59
Now, not sure i have yet enough watches to call myself a collector, but am certainly an enthusiast!

Anyone with two watches or more is a collector my friend….

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 17th, 2022-18:39
You are an enthusiastic collector 😊

That works!

By: Chronometer (aka yacomino) : January 17th, 2022-19:33

Yes. Omega. A few reasons…

 By: myles721 : January 17th, 2022-18:10
1. My intro to the brand was the Seamaster PO Chrono. IMHO one of the finest watches ever made. It was easier to embrace the brand ethos after owning this watch.
2. Service…impeccable, thorough and timely.
3. The movements. Not haute horology in finish (although pretty good) but again IMHO (daniels…15000 gauss…METAS) perhaps the finest functional movements

around.
4. Had a terrible experience with a so called “haute” maker and was so disgusted I went running back to Omega.

Whether or not you consider the watches I own a collection I don’t consider myself a “collector” …rather an enthusiast that buys watches for practical reasons. So I don’t feel the need to own more than one brand.

As I was explaining above, I think the definition of a collector is anyone with two watches or more….

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 17th, 2022-18:42
And your preference on Omega is pure to the definition of a collector in my books.
I like Omegas too, no games, good availability and service like you mentioned.
Happy collecting!

wow super nice collection

 By: christianch : January 17th, 2022-19:46
I like the idea to focus on one brand (well it is too later for me I am afraid) you have all well covered and the DSOTM black black is amazing.

🙏🏻

 By: myles721 : January 17th, 2022-20:45

Very nice, I admire both the self-awareness and the devotion to your special brand -- a true collector in my book! ;-)

 By: FabR : January 17th, 2022-20:50

Thanks😉
