Well,I have learnt to hold my piece till I see the real thing.
I can only judge by the pictures and tech description.
At first glance ,it doesnt make me go WOW!There is something about the dial that I find unbalanced, maybe the earth picture takes over too much, maybe its not contrasting enough(a Rose Gold version with golden numerals would be better?),overall a bit cold but,but I need to see it live.
I would like to know how the final rendition of the earth will be,a minor problem with the Duometre a QL is that the moon disc could have been a bit better executed,so its vital for this dial to know the final version of the earth disc(enamel I doubt it but lets see, maybe its curved, laquered ,3d who knows, lets wait).
I do not like the choices of the bezel and the caseback(like the QL 40.5mm):I much prefer the straight bezel of the classic Duo,I already said it with the 40.5 which had the same bezel, but most of all I don t like the caseback ring that covers(like in the 40.5QL)part of the movement. It looks like the movement is squeezed in too much,I much prefer when the majestic Duo caliber is free to breathe like in the Chrono,QL,ST.I understand the need to engrave the city names but I cant take my eyes off that suffocating movement.
Finally I don t like the fact that a brand new model is just Boutique only,I understand an edition of a model but a complete new reference leaves me a bit disappointed.I only hope though that JLC sticks to that, rather than making another version non limited, that will damage the brand credibility. But with JLC and editions ,you'll never know.
I might sound too critical, but as I said I need to see it live and make a better judgement.Unfortunately not a big jump on the chair for me this time.
Mo
Its not a world timer in a classic sense, like the PP or the VC Patrimony.
They sure managed to squeeze in a WT reference(Like the Grubel and F ,you have to turn the watch around which I find a bit.....uncomfortable),but still the WT is only a side dish not the main one, that being the dual time....
Its a hard watch to get,the live experience is a MUST!I am sure there are going to be other iteration on this model, based on the sales.JLC is not the best when its down to keep the exclusivity, but why wouldn t they? You can t just create a new caliber for 100 watches right?
The fact that we talk a lot about it its a sign of great personality,I give you that.
Mo
Not in white metal, only in colored gold, later...
Best,
Nicolas
when does the 18ktR version for the world come out (non-limited, of course)?
-Dean
What do you really think personally?Do you like it or do you LIKE it?
Would you consider it?,does it make you shiver a bit? What are your feelings,
Mo
to me the Duometre line is a big love as you know, definitely the first step into yhis family would be the "A Chronograph"
I fell in love with the Lunaire and went for it too because its so charming and complements my chronograph so well,I liked the idea of a Chronograph/chronometer set and contrasting colours and metals for versatility.
I am still sad about your story with that PT beauty ,even because personally it brings back nice memory of anEaster spent together.
This new UTT needs a live experience I am sure, I hope to be able to see it soon,so I understand that it must have a lot of charm if you decide that it could be for you...even over the Lunaire!
Well ,price wise I am not surprised, the Duometre a Chronograph was marketed on the cheap side from JLC probably because they wanted to introduce a new line with it and werent sure about it ,who knows, but they soon realized that and the prices started slowly rising with the 2 black versions of the chronograph and the Lunaire.
Obviously now that the Duometre line is well established they tend to increase RRPs .YES this watch is a tad expensive, especially if you compare it with the Chronograph.....plus its LE etc etc.....
Nice to hear your heart speak on this....
Mo
More seriously, thi UTT is gronwing on me. Once you get the concept behind the watch, and that you play with it, it is rather funny, and interesting.
Let me know what you think.
Well, if you have the time, tomorrow, to mae a jump to the Paris Boutique, you will be able to discover it...
Best,
Nicolas.
we better book it soon...what will the price be next August when it will be delivered?
By the way,,,live experience is another thing....I will post my impression tomorrow.

If walls had ears we would have discovered a world better timed.
well sadly this one it is not really for me…
When I saw this piece in the flesh I was relieved because it was no doubt a great deal better than the appreciation I had made of it based on the circulating images.
I then looked at it carefully, the style, the size the finishings are to me acceptable and likeable.
I am not too sure I really enjoy the ‘A.L.S.’ resemblance even if I do like ‘A.L.S.’ watches, but I like each to keep their known identity. Nonetheless at first real glance I was more positive than ever about this new piece.
A little deeper into it, I was fast in a jam, for a piece that wishes to stand or sit at this level, I would want a world map to be more detailed and showing more of those mythic skills, it is a world time and it must get my mind away traveling, this one here can be a companion but not a friend; too hard to tell time, I think a worldtime or a watch with multiple time must be readable in an instant and this piece to me is far from offering an acceptable readability.
Please let’s revisit the entire world map and its sub-dial
Well well,
I ve tried it and played with it at the wonderful Paris Boutique a couple of days ago.
A watch to see live definitely. The essence of the Duometre line is well kept,my main concer really,.
The smooth round bezel of the Duo aQL 40.5 ,goes well with the bigger case,a nice, smooth well contained case that gives a good feeling on the wrist.still it could be a mm thinner and that will make it even better but even like this I don t mind it.
A clever watch:so not only with crown in pos 2 you have the classical feature of dual time watches, when both the minute hands move together to set the times, but you can on pos 1 set a different time of your choice......I like the fact that anyway the typical feature of a dual time watch is kept ,in case you are not fussed about setting a different time on the dual time dial.
The second timezone setting (on demand)is super cool and the interesting point of this UTT,great concept.I don t know what this is really, definitely a dual time( a sophisticated one with the possibility to create a second time zone on demand and set it to he minute),I am not sure about a classical World timer.......I think a world timer watch gives you the information(timezones)automatically and at a glance ,where here you create your own......so?Not A WT 100% but a different way to interpret it.
The dial is clean and pleasant, the copper domed earth disc is nice and create a great effect, day and night very cool too.
I still don t understand fully the need to set your GMT at the bottom and sync it to your own GMT on the subdial...I think its because than you have a reference for the World time timetable engraved on the back?
Anyway great creation, great dial(DUO DNA)....Interested to see a future RG version as I find this one a touch but only a tuch too cold...well I can live with it dont get me wrong!A Rg version would be great with rg applied numerald and hands to match the RG tones on the Earth disc at the bottom(maybe with a light slate grey grained dial?only dreaming).
A feature that I don t like much is the engraved caseback..too busy and thick but you couldn t do it in any other way.
Price wise....well a bit too much IMO...but maybe because we areused to the Duometre prices.....still for the same price I would get the Chrono......
A very interesting watch....who knows maybe we will cross path one day in the future.....a watch I will consider,,in time.
Mo
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Duometre UTT after havng seen it in the real, Mo.
I told you that the real experience was much more interesting than pictures.
We were many to be skeptical on the press file picture, and to have a differentb feeling in the real.
Ni doubt that JLC will release a Rose Gold version. My guess is that they will do it in 2014.
As for the price, yes, a tad too high, I agree with you.
Best!
Nicolas
