We are discussing watches (things) and every person has a different feel or opinion about them and (at least to me) here we should be free to discuss watches. Nobody should get offended by comments on things.
It is my feeling (after years of ownership and I have owned a few) that for normal use PAM’s are too big and uncomfortable. That’s all. It’s a personal thing. No offending meant and no offended taken.

It depends on your wrist physiology
If you have a relatively flat wrist (whether small or large total diameter) and the lugs of big watches don't overhang the sides they can look good on you.
On the other hand (pun intended) if you have a relatively tubular wrist even if you are Sasquatch-sized in total diameter, the lugs of big watches may overhang the sides of your wrist and look way too big.
I'm a flat-wrister me-self.
I make an exception for Panerai
36-38mm watches are generally my favorites. Even a 42mm Omega or Rolex looks and feels too big on my 6.8" wrist.
Yet I own several 47mm Panerais. My wife and friends ask why I choose to wear a clock on my wrist! Part of the reason is that PAMs were designed to be big, for legibility underwater. Another part is that the simple dials of two-handers like the 249, 587, and 721 somehow compensate (somewhat) for their large size. The 249 and 721, for example, have simple blue hands that only shine from certain angles. The 587 has gold hands but a nice symmetry that gives it a lower key, classic appearance. Other big, modern watches can be flashy while a large Panerai often makes think fantasy or whimsy instead of luxury or affluence.
No argument on comfort though. My 36mm 114270 Explorer or slightly larger Hamilton Khaki Field or Omega Railmaster can be worn all day without discomfort. A 40mm Sub feels larger and heavier. And the big PAMs, even more so. Yet today I'm wearing the relatively trim 249 and it's pretty darn comfortable -- for a wrist clock ;-)
WOW...I've gotten a headache just....
reading all the brands and models you own and use. LOLLL After about 1 month of 249, all the other watches looked (to me) like gifts you can find inside an Easter egg and I stopped using them altogether. Nowadays, everything less than 44mm it would feel like a...Flik Flak...LOLLL

It is funny how I like Panerai and, at the same time, much smaller watches. Not sure it makes sense, but I gave up trying to make sense with watches long ago. Here are two more for you that I like but are altogether different -- a Nomos Orion 38 Datum and Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical. I admit to liking small Flik Flaks like the 36mm Explorer -- makes my wrists look BIG, like DT's hands or Arnold's biceps ;-) OK, no politics ... sorry!
If there's something I've learned....
during an already long life is that, when it comes to one's pleasure and doesn't hurt anybody around you...making sense...it's not indispensible. Just enjoy it, period

And even though I don't find them uncomfortable (I wear them when I photograph on long trips) I find myself preferring 40mm watches (why I'm probably more leaning towards Rolex these days) and on a bracelet vs strap.
But I love em. A couple are still on my list. I'll probably get to them once I've gotten a couple more Rolex pieces. My tastes have narrowed down to a few brands.. Rolex, Omega, JLC and Panerai. And just a few pieces from each at that.. not even minding if I don't get some them.

With a much smaller wrist I too wore many 44mm and flirted with the 47mm (127, 448 and 372).
For me the 47mm were not uncomfortable but they didn't look right on my wrist.
And today my eyes see pretty much anything above 40/41mm (depending on lug length / shape) to be pretty much too big. I do still enjoy my remaining PAM but I'm not sure I'd buy another 44mm.
