There is no doubt that the JLC movement is more refined and appealing, but they had a history of not being particularly reliable, particularly in a tool watch. I too would go with a Mark XV over the Mark XII, but an early one with tritium dial and the same grain of rice bracelet as shown in the Mark XII above.
I've also read, that the JLC 889 is less sturdy. However, I've been wearing the XII' hard over the past 15 years without any issues. Also, at less then 3k euro it's a steal :-)
