You’ve nailed it yet again Joe.

Thank you so much for such an in-depth very well presented explanation of this great reference. Although I have to say the quality of the wrist shot you used makes the post 😉.
The moment I saw it I knew it was something special and a watch that must sit in my collection. I was fortunate enough to get the first one that came into my AD with the press package as well. It’s a watch I’ve not given enough time to but that will change now.
Nice to have a mark 1 with all the points on your tick sheet.
Thank you again and I look forward to the next chapter.
M.

Very educating, Joe. Many thanks for taking us to that journey

I don't know whether to quote Walt Whitman or Grand Funk Railroad. One thing is sure, you rascal...Ms Piggy will see what you've posted. And she won't be happy.

Very interesting and timely post Joe.

Especially for someone like me who is a newbie in the world of Rolex.

Sincerely appreciate all your time and effort taken to piece this together! 😃😃😃

I look forward to the next part of this series!

I think when secondary market prices of the "new" watches have moved skywards.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : July 3rd, 2018-09:59
.....it really makes sense to look at neo-vintage or transitional models like this.

YES +100 ! This is my philosophy also. Buy "cheap" and wait. [nt]

I am awed by your (and others) knowledge of the details of Rolex dials. So far beyond what I can ken. I'll buy new(ish) and hope I live long enough to see it grow in value. In the meantime I do applaud your post.

2003-2010..... that’s newish [nt]

Well.....

 By: Baron - Mr Red : July 3rd, 2018-08:28
..... this is the first of a series of 6 or 7. So maybe there will be a modern Sea-Dweller coming.

I'm looking forward to more of this.

While i can't, and never will, wrap my head around this degree of detail I find it fascinating. And it helps me in other areas of collecting. So keep it up. (And definitely examine the SD!)

One of my fav as you know

There are many things here I was completely unaware of, and I’m grateful for the lesson. This is a piece I’ve considered off and on for the past few years, but it has jumped up here in the last month or so. I also have a Hulk, so I go back and forth between thinking they’re too similar or a perfect compliment.

In any event, I eagerly await the next entry!

Hi Bill!

The "thin 4" on a Mark 1 is always replaced. I asked my friend and Rolex watchmaker, if it is damaged the change it. Rolex had only "thin 4" to replace, they dont have the "fat four" inserts.

Rolex dont sale the green insert, it is only in change with the old damaged to buy. The price is about 300,- for a green in change, the price for a black one 50,- without change.

So it is very important not to damage the fat four insert, because this makes a diference from about 3000,- Euros in the moment. In Spain, i saw a Mark 1 for sale with "thin 4" F-Serie for 7000,- . Normaly the start with 10.000,- up to 25 for a mint Y-Serie.

Also you can not buy the so called "MAXI DIAL", they only change it and the dealer have to send the old one to Rolex, than they sen a new one, NOT MARK 1 and 2 with "5 Tics" .

Best Walter
