Hi all
Please see my Rolex 16800 1984 / 85 sub
Can any one give me advice on the zorro face dial
The watch has been serviced by Rolex in 1989 the watch is 100% original in a beautiful condition some polishing has taken place
Rolex shops are unable to give me any information
Am trying to get more info and a value

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a "zorro face dial"? [nt]

Hi ya
Check out the submariner S is shaped like a Z also the F in feet is positioned differently and the coronet has two shorter V working from the left side

I never understood...

These tiny differences on Rolex dials and the values people place on some of them.  I have an old 14060A 2-line and I chose it over the 4-line strictly because I prefer less clutter on the dial.

That’s a very cool watch
Been looking at a 5513 pre Comex

Your 16800 is lovely, Tony

The patina is fantastic!

As for the value, we do not usually discuss them.

Having said that, a quick ebay search will lead you to a couple of examples sharing the same dial as yours. Now, how collectable that feature is, is beyond me, but your watch has a great even patina and overall condition, which should help in fetching a premium over others.

As for the dial itself, I am inclined to believe that these might be the first run after the matte dial 16800 was put out of production. Nothing certain nor conclusive, just a hunch based on your open 6 date disk.

Good luck in your quest and enjoy your Sub!

Cheers,

Alex

Hands

 By: tony.ciccone : March 27th, 2020-10:26
Owner is telling me the hands are original how in the hell do I work that out
Need the watch in my hands to truly check the colours as I did with the 16800

Then it is a matter of trust and buying the seller, Tony...

Do you feel comfortable?
The hands can always be color matched at one of the many restoration shops around the world, so that is not a problem.

Lady seller

The owner is a lady who appears sound
I am waiting for the Rolex service details I will then make a decision not in a mega hurry to blow the money that one just seamed nice. Unfortunately we are not allowed to travel so I cant view it
That version seams to hold good money not that I gonna flip it
A none date would be nice to have and something a little unusual to look at
Bloody nuts really
