(Japanese zodiac). This time, we literally used the zodiac signs (Etō)
for those markers. In Japan, the zodiac is more associated with the
animal character of the year rather than tracking hours, so it is quite
familiar to people. But actually, during the Meiji period, before
aligning with western time zones, Japanese timekeeping actually utilized
