A David Walter Double Pendulum Clock – Part 18, First Synchonisation !

The clock is up and running!

David's commentary:
The sidereal movement made its first tick at 12.17pm today,

once I was happy with it's running I fitted the other movement and weight. Dual "Tick" was achieved at 3.37pm on the 30th December 2105.

The following MicroSet graph shows both pendulums from a start without interruption by me doing something else to the clock. The clock is mounted on a test wall and is not enclosed by a case, even walking past will create a draft and effect the pendulums rate and amplitude. The timer is set to record every 60 seconds. Beginning at the far left the pendulums initial rate (the vertical red lines) is is very high and low, this is reflected in the amplitude (light blue line), very quickly the pendulums become locked in Anti-phase or as is sometimes said "achieves resonance". In this instance I was able to start the pendulums very close to anti-phase.
If anyone is interested I can record and post another graph showing a start with greater deviation from anti-phase. As is clear on the MicroSet graph both pendulums come to their rate within about 30 minutes and stayed consistent over the 12 hours shown. The pendulums have not been brought to rate yet as this is the very first run and a 2.8 seconds per day error is a very good start. The amplitude (light blue line) shows that it take some 5-6 hours for the pendulum amplitude to stabilize.

This is fantastic. Will have to do some thinking. Thanks for sharing, Don.
