Wife and I have been waiting to try the new Santos range in person since SIHH this January.

The watches was finally available this week across the world.

Before visiting my AD, I had the SS version in mind as priority. After seeing the watches in the flesh, however, the two tone version clearly stood out for us.

The new Santos watches have slimmer profiles than the now replaced Santos 100 (which we also own as a pair of couple watches).

The medium model has a case size of 35.1mm x 41.9mm with a thickness of 8.83mm.

The large model is 39.8mm x 47.5mm and 9.08 thick.

One of the reason that we chose the two tone version over the full SS ones is the contrast between (or I should say the harmonious combination of) the yellow gold bezel, white dial, black roman numerals and blue hands. And I really like that minutes track!

People with OCD issues might want to see all the screws lined up perfectly.

For wife and me, no problem at all. And we think this actually adds character to the watch.

The newly designed bracelet comes with " Smart Links",  which makes sizing the bracelet a very easy job that can be done in a minute without the help of any tools.

The quick-change system allows the wearer to exchange bracelet and straps within seconds.

I guess we really like Cartier, huh?

With its slimmer case and fantastic bracelet, the new Santos offers a very satisfying wearing experience. But we'll definitely keep the Santos 100 pair, and pass them to one of my sons and his future wife.

Regards,
Luis

About the Cartier Santos Ref. Santos100

The Cartier Santos 100 was introduced in 2004 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the original Santos-Dumont watch. It represents a contemporary interpretation of the historic pilot's watch, featuring a larger and more robust case design compared to its predecessors. This model positioned itself as a sportier, more modern offering within the Santos collection, appealing to collectors seeking a bolder presence on the wrist while retaining the iconic square aesthetic.

The Santos 100 typically features a stainless steel or precious metal case, often with a brushed finish and polished bezel screws. Case dimensions vary, but common sizes include a large model around 51mm x 41mm. It is powered by an automatic mechanical movement, often a modified ETA caliber, providing reliable timekeeping. The crystal is usually sapphire, and water resistance is generally rated for daily wear.

For collectors, the Santos 100 is notable for its blend of heritage design with modern proportions and construction. It marked a significant update to the Santos line, moving towards a more substantial and contemporary aesthetic. Its robust build and versatile design made it a popular choice, bridging the gap between Cartier's dressier offerings and more overtly sporty watches.

Brands need to learn from these easy change bracelet or strap design to prevent scratches and bad accidents on the lugs. My boss also sometimes hinted we donโ€™t have Cartier, maybe Drive or Panthere will work. Rgds Raymond

The choice between steel or steel gold is a tough one. Steel gold was like the original model when it was released in 1978 and is in my opinion the best choice. I have an older version in all steel, but do regret that a bit. Congrats and enjoy! GEO
