There are watches I ask the Manufacture to show me almost each time I go there. The Master Compressor Extreme Lab One is one of them.

I think we can say that this watch is the most innovative made by Jaeger Lecoultre. It has only one competitor, the Ulysse Nardin Innovision, which was unveiled the very same year, in 2007!

The main goal of this watch? Jaeger Lecoultre focused on one of the most classic problem in horology: The lubrification of the movement parts.

Here, the movement is oil free due to the choice of the innovative materials used for its parts: Silicon ( escapement ) is well known but not only: Ticalium for the bridges ( an alloy of aluminium and titanium ), Easium for the bearings, black diamond for the pallet, magnesium for the tourbillon carriage, and iridium, platinum and carbon for the rotor and its arms.

The other goal is to offer a watch able to resist to extreme conditions: The movement is suspended, the case is made of carbon and titanium and the bezel is in silicon.

With all this, the watch can endure very low and high temperatures ( - 40° / + 60° Celsius ) and some important shocks.

With a production of 5 pieces each year, it is a rare bird you will almost never see in the flesh, except if you visit the Manufacture.

Best,

Nicolas

I just cannot forget it. Even if I always found that a Tourbillon in a sports watch was a weird combination. [nt]

Agree !

This along with many lab series had been great watches and technological marvel in the horological world . Lack of good marketing had been the reason and back then I guess social media was not huge . If it was launched today then probably it would be a different ball game . Jlc under the reign of Jerome Lambert in the initial years and more , made great watches and broke many convential barriers . This is the outcome of that effort and research/execution !

What would have been fantastic: An Extreme Lab II, but also a III. Just for the legend to live... [nt]
