Ahoi's striking photography of the Panerai PAM587 Marina Militare ignites a discussion among collectors about the nuances of Panerai's historical references. His post highlights the distinctive aesthetic of the PAM587, particularly its hands and dial text, inviting fellow enthusiasts to share their experiences with this iconic model. This article delves into the community's insights on case design, comfort, and the subtle differences that define these sought-after timepieces.

The Panerai PAM587 Marina Militare is a special edition that pays homage to historical Panerai designs, specifically referencing models from the brand's early history. It distinguishes itself through its specific dial text and overall aesthetic, which aligns with the brand's pre-Vendôme era watches. This reference is part of a series of watches that evoke the brand's foundational period, appealing to collectors interested in the origins of Panerai's design language.
The watch features a 47mm polished steel case, a size characteristic of many historical Panerai instruments. It is fitted with a 3mm Plexiglas crystal, further enhancing its vintage appeal by replicating the material used in early models. The watch is powered by the in-house Calibre P.3000, a manual-wind movement known for its robust construction and a power reserve of three days. The solid case back maintains the historical integrity of the design.
This reference holds particular interest for collectors who appreciate Panerai's heritage-inspired pieces. It is often discussed alongside other models that draw heavily from the brand's past, such as the PAM372, for its faithful interpretation of vintage elements. The PAM587's specific dial configuration and limited production contribute to its desirability within the collecting community, representing a direct link to the brand's historical identity.
I like the 249, 673, and 721, but there's something special about the 587. It's probably the simplicity and symmetry, without the crown guard, along with a bold elegance that gives it a unique appeal for me. How do you like it Ahoi? I know you have a few that you love ;-)
into MM. I have a few of them. I like the look of the 587 more than its "feel" on my wrist, to be honest. I haven't worn it in donkey's ears.
I’m surprised, given how similar the case design is to that of the 372 or 673.
since my collection doesn't allow for regular production's models. There is a slight difference in the lugs design of the 587 and the 673, which makes the 673 feel less chunky on my wrist. Same for Fiddie and 605. I did take comparative pictures between 587 and 673 where the difference is pretty obvious. Unfortunately, my previous Laptop melted and I don't have the pictures anymore :-(
I was trying to decide between the 673 and 587 and you took many photos which showed subtle differences in the lug shape. I don't think I saved the photos but will check my files and let you know if any turn up. If my memory can be trusted, the 372 and 673 have the same 1950 Luminor case, including the lugs and case back shape.
The hour hand is just too small. I prefer the hands of the 587 or eg from the 622 with its longer hourly hand
