I am looking forward to see what happened in those years and what the outcome is.

That´s what we saw (or even got; at least a few very lucky ones smile ) back in 1989:

Only five models shown in the picture above, but in fact there have been eight watches for the 150th anniversary: 3960, 3969, 3974, 3979, 4760, 4761, 4762 and Calibre 89

Ref. 3960 : The Officer

Ref. 3969 : The Jump Hour

I still can remember a story about a young man (a banker from Switzerland) in his 20´s who spent all his savings to get it. Would like to know if it is still in his possession and if he is still in love with the watch. If there is anyone who knows more about, please share!

Calibre 89

The last picture shows just one level out of four and one can imagine how complicated it is with four levels like this on top.

Whenever there was something to celebrate in the last 25 years, we saw something nice from Patek Philippe.

1997 – inauguration of the PP Manufacture

Ref. 5029 : The Minute Repeater Chronometer

Ref. 5500 : The Pagoda

2000 – the 3rd Millenium

Ref. 5100 : The 10 Days

Star Caliber 2000

The 150th inspired the Calibre 89, the 175th will most certainly make history.

Will we see successor´s, something much more complicated (on top) or something totally unexpected and new? Will there be something with a battery in the anniversary collection, because Quartz is also a strong part of the business from Patek Philippe – even today?

Only a few more weeks to go and I think we will see at least three more watches smile

Cordially,

Oliver

About the Rolex Air-King Ref. 5500

Rolex Air-King Reference 5500

The Reference 5500 represents the black dial steel variant within the Air-King model range. Produced from 1972 to 1989, this reference spans nearly two decades of Rolex's catalog, offering the Air-King configuration in stainless steel construction with contrasting black dial presentation.

The 34mm stainless steel case houses the automatic Caliber 1520 movement, providing 42-48 hours of power reserve. The watch features a fixed bezel, acrylic crystal, and 100-meter water resistance. The black dial is paired with a steel bracelet, creating a monochromatic steel and black aesthetic throughout the watch.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking vintage Rolex pieces from the 1970s and 1980s production era. The 34mm case size and automatic movement position it as an accessible entry point within vintage Rolex collecting, while the extended production period means examples can be found across various condition grades and price points.

...there will be several models for the 175th anniversary. Patek needs to produce anniversary watches at various levels so that different collectors can enjoy and remember the 175th Birthday. Cheers, Gordon

There were a lot of non-round celebration watches... maybe a hint for what we can expect within a few weeks? Thanks for the reminder. Fx

..."So there will be different levels of watches, for men and for ladies" regarding the upcoming celebration. He also mentioned a story that only one person thus far had predicted accurately what Patek would produce for the 175th anniversary. That person is a 12 years old boy who accompanied his father to Basel this year, and he told Stern what he thought might happen. We should find that boy and recruit him to be a member of our forum !! Gordon, are we sure it wasn´t Thierry´s son ... ;-) Anyway, I like your idea. Let´s start hunting now, instead of waiting with patience :-) Best, Oliver
