Christianch shares a two-year ownership review of his Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse Ref. 3738/100G-012 in white gold, offering a personal perspective on this often-understated model. His article provides valuable insights into the watch's wearability, design, and the enduring appeal of its Caliber 240 automatic movement, especially for collectors with smaller wrists.

It has been almost two years since I bought my Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse ( 3738/100G-012 in white gold).

I do realise that this is one of the most basic (and humble) models but I think it might be an interesting contrast with
other more sought-after and complicated models. I purchased the golden ellipse in February 2013 and I am still
very grateful to all the suggestions and recommendations received from several forum members. Initially I wasn't truly sure
about it but the feedback from existing owners was very valuable indeed.

I currently own three patek (this was my second, the other two I have are a Calatrava 5127 and the Steel Nautilus in
white) and, while all three were pretty much love at first sight, I was truly very excited to get the golden ellipse and I am
still excited when I wear it:

I bought too many watches in 2013 so the golden ellipse had to wait a bit until I re-discovered it and realised how
much I still love it. There is something special about it. In my view if you have like me a fairly small wrist and are looking
for a unique yet very discrete watch the golden ellipse is an excellent choice. It is very light and slim yet. In contrast
with other slim watches I own I like that the ellipse has an automatic movement.

Here it is in front of the patek philippe boutique:

And on a book

I love the combination with the cufflinks that add even more class to a special day or
evening

The dial is very unique and I think this model is the first to have it in a grey that has a different impact
depending on the light:

I think that the Patek Philippe golden ellipse is certainly not for everyone but I absolutely love the
unique shape, the retro feeling and how discrete it can be. It is among one of the simplest and more
affordable patek models yet it is different and personally I like it much more than more complicated
watches in my collection.

After almost two years I don't find a single negative about the watch. If you love the size and design
you won't be disappointed.

I plan to wear it even more often as I absolutely love simple yet classy watches.

About the Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 5127

The Patek Philippe Calatrava reference 5127 represents a distinct iteration within the Calatrava line, characterized by its inclusion of crown guards, a feature not commonly found on many other Calatrava models. This design element provides a slightly sportier aesthetic and contributes to a more robust wrist presence compared to its more minimalist counterparts. It was offered alongside other Calatrava references, providing collectors with a choice that balanced traditional Calatrava elegance with a subtle contemporary edge.

The 5127 features a 37 mm case, available in various precious metals. The watch is powered by an automatic movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The front crystal is also sapphire, ensuring durability and clarity. The case design, with its integrated crown guards, distinguishes it from other Calatrava references that typically feature a more exposed crown.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking a Calatrava with a slightly more pronounced and protected profile. Its availability in different precious metals, such as white gold (5127G), rose gold (5125R), and platinum (5110P, though the 5127 is distinct), allowed for varied collecting opportunities. The 5127 occupies a specific niche for those who appreciate the Calatrava's classic proportions but desire the added visual and functional element of crown guards.

get it ? I understand the the grey/white gold came out in 2005 or was it later ? Thanks for sharing the photo I do remember the watch and the comparison photos that you have kindly posted when I was deciding to buy it. Indeed you should try to wear it more but you have such an amazing collection that, for sure, the Ellipse will face some serious competition :) Out of curiosity which do you wear the most in your collection ? Best Regards Christian

It was in perfect condition, with all papers and even the sales receipt. However, I took it to Patek Geneva and they made a full service plus delivered me two made-to-measure straps. The greatest joy was when they found from the spare parts in Geneva a special white gold deployment clasp made for Golden Ellipse. For me (nowadays) wearing a Petek is a special occasion. I guess my favourite model is my 3712 pictured here. However, if I am 100% honest, I must admit that I feel most "home" when wear

I have to confess that your pics really highlight the specific beauty of the Ellipse. The YG & blue dial is on my target list. Thanks a lot! Fx
