Because I'm a little obsessed with the ref. 5100 and as a follow up to amanico's thread from 2 days ago, here's a pictorial of the platinum version of this model, ref. 5100P-001.

As only 300 pieces were made in this metal (1500 in yellow gold, 750 in rose gold and 450 in white gold), photos are harder to find and often of poor or average quality: I've chosen the best I could find, especially among actual owners of the watch.

Note that the now famous practice of setting a Top Wesselton diamond between the lugs of platinum models was first initiated with this model from 2000 at the request of Philippe Stern (as the Calatrava 5032J-012 about which I posted yesterday, the 5100 was a Millennium release).

Finally, my previous threads celebrating this very unique reference can be found here: rose gold variant, yellow gold variant, hands-on with both rose and yellow gold variants.

Best, Emmanuel

About the Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 5100

The Patek Philippe Calatrava reference 5100 was introduced in 2000 as a limited edition to commemorate the new millennium. This reference stands out within the Calatrava line for its distinctive 'Manta Ray' shaped case, departing from the more traditional round Calatrava forms. It was produced in very limited quantities across different precious metals, making it a notable special edition for collectors of the brand.

The 5100 features a manual-wind caliber 28-20/220, a movement specifically developed for this model, known for its elongated form to fit the unique case shape. The case is characterized by its rectangular, slightly curved profile with integrated lugs, and it is fitted with a sapphire crystal. The specific variant mentioned, the 5100P-001, is crafted in platinum.

This reference appeals to collectors who appreciate Patek Philippe's limited-production commemorative pieces and those drawn to watches with distinctive case designs. Its unique aesthetic and the bespoke movement developed for it position the 5100 as a significant, albeit unconventional, entry in the brand's modern history, particularly for enthusiasts of shaped timepieces.

The case profile is a sublime work of art. Am I out of bounds to say the lugs are a touch Parmigiani-ish? Or maybe it's vice versa, Parmigiani lugs evoke this 5100 Thank you so much for these photos. M4

The only two exceptions being the Tank and Reverso. And given that dress watches have dropped in popularity since this was first released that might make it an even harder sell 🤷🏻‍♂️ But fully with you, would be awesome if they did offer something such again 🤞🏻

The molds and specific tools for the 5100 have been deliberately destroyed. So they would have to come up with a new design! All the best to both of you, Emmanuel
