Amanico celebrates 17 years with his Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 5110P, a reference he considers one of the most charming Patek Philippe watches ever made. His deep appreciation for its design, proportions, and finishing, along with his personal journey to acquire this 'grail' watch, offers valuable insights into what makes a timepiece truly special to a collector. Amanico's post also reveals a fascinating detail about the dial's artistic inspiration, making this a must-read for Patek Philippe enthusiasts.

Introduced in the Catalog in the year 2000, discontinued in 2006, I had to wait 4 years before getting mine, in November 2004.

The 5110 was, for me, a grail at the level of the Lange Datograph, the Duomètre à Chronographe, the Freak from Ulysse Nardin, for example, Grails and Dreams that I turned into Reality, so to tell you how important this watch is, to me.

Funnily, this reference is the one which made me dream the most, among all the Patek references, with the elusive " Celestial " reference 5102G, the 3939, the 5078, the 5970, the 5100G Ten Days or the good old Amagnetic 3417. You will see, one day, it will reach the iconic status it deserves.

In my opinion, the 5110 is one of the most charming Patek: Refined, beautiful, charming, superbly made, it has everything I like. Since then, we saw some descendants, like the 5130 or the 5230, but none of them can beat the 5110, in terms of proportions ( case, dial, 24 hours ring and cities ) and in finishings ( center dial ).

On this matter, it took me 17 years to find where Patek took its inspiration for the dial finishes:

Not that the 5130 and the 5230 are not good watches, they are! The 5130 is maybe " more cool " with its bigger case, while the 5230 is a mix of the two other references in terms of case dimensions, but when it comes to charm and refinement, the 5110 is the milestone in my opinion and in my heart.

If I had to sum or to reduce my collection to only 10 pieces, the 5110 would be, for sure, one of them.

Indeed, it stood the test of time, during all these years. An ever growing love, from the unveiling to the delivery and till nowadays. It is one of the oldest watches in my collection, in terms of ownership, which means a lot.

A perpetual invitation to trips:

Long life to my 5110!

Best,

Nicolas

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5130

The Patek Philippe Complications reference 5130, introduced in 2006, is a World Time watch that succeeded the popular reference 5110. This model maintained the distinctive World Time complication, allowing for simultaneous display of time in 24 different time zones. Its design evolved with a slightly larger case and updated dial aesthetics, distinguishing it from its predecessor while retaining the core functionality that defines Patek Philippe's travel timepieces. It was produced until 2017.

The watch features an 18k rose gold case measuring 39.5mm in diameter and 9.8mm in thickness, housing the self-winding Caliber 240 HU movement. This ultra-thin movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case back, provides a power reserve of 48 hours. The dial is silver or opaline with a guilloché center, protected by a sapphire crystal. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters.

Reference 5130 appeals to collectors seeking a sophisticated travel complication from Patek Philippe. Its larger case size compared to the 5110 offered a more contemporary presence on the wrist, while its classic World Time mechanism remained a hallmark of the brand's technical prowess. The model was available in various precious metals, with the rose gold variant offering a warm aesthetic.

Love the dial even if it is not black… my first one by the way… The guilloché leaves me without words… Moreover I find the dial much more balanced than on those which followed it Love the hands that remind me of a bat… I like its proportions… a 90-60-90 for a watch… And what is cool : this watch was not yet an Instagram icon so… it is a reference that remains rare and discreet… It is a delicate, precious, unpretentious watch ... Classic but with just the right amount of modernity and originality

It ignited my love for the 5130P which is my absolute n1 watch and if I would have to reduce to 1 watch that would be it. Enjoy my friend!

Absolutely agree with your view that 5110 has the best proportion between inner dial and 24h+city ring, among all pp worldtime versions
