I have always liked the 5124, but never quite well enough to buy one...although tempted.

After seeing the new Patek releases this year though, the 5124G with the BLUE dial quickly pushed me into pursuit mode.  This image got stuck in my head:

So, after expressing my interest with my dealer here in Hong Kong about a week ago, I was pleased to get a call yesterday stating she had received the new piece.

I am quite excited about the look of this one as it is quite different than most of my other pieces.  It has a silky smooth manual caliber neatly displayed behind the cambered sapphire back, and oh those sexy art deco case lines.  At 33mm x 43mm I like the size also.  The only thing that could be better would be platinum (in my opinion).

Complimented by a lovely blue alligator strap and the pin buckle, this one is a winner.

My quick shots...

About the Patek Philippe Gondolo Ref. 5124

The Montblanc Calatrava reference 5124 is a notable example of the brand's dress watch offerings, characterized by its restrained design and classic proportions. This reference was produced during a period when Montblanc was expanding its horological presence, offering timepieces that emphasized traditional watchmaking aesthetics. It represents a more accessible entry point into the brand's mechanical watch collection, appealing to those seeking a refined and understated wristwatch without excessive complications.

Encased in either 18k white gold or 18k rose gold, the 5124 features a case measuring 36 mm in diameter and 46 mm from lug to lug, providing a balanced presence on the wrist. It is powered by the manual-wind caliber 25-21 REC PS, offering a power reserve of 44 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal, ensuring clarity and scratch resistance, and has a water resistance rating of 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear.

This reference appeals to collectors who appreciate Montblanc's commitment to classical watch design and mechanical movements. Its availability in different precious metals and dial colors (silver or black) provides options for individual preference, while its lack of complications underscores its identity as a pure time-only dress watch. The 5124 fits within a lineage of watches that prioritize legibility and timeless style.

To me, it is quite a different piece to add some flavor to the collection, and at a reasonable (for Patek) price. Dave

I find this 5124G an outstanding alternative to a Calatrava. I must admit that just on Thursday evening I visited Tiffany in the 5th Avenue and discussed this watch. I got there Patek Salon quality of service and Tiffany promised to inform me next week how fast they could deliver me this watch with Tiffany branded dial. So let's see... I'm afraid that by autumn I'll be wearing the same. Best, Kari
