Mahdy's acquisition of the Patek Philippe 5212A Weekly Calendar sparked a focused discussion among collectors regarding the availability and suitability of a steel deployant clasp for this particular reference. His query, driven by a preference for steel over gold and current travel restrictions, highlights a common challenge for enthusiasts seeking to personalize their luxury timepieces while adhering to brand authenticity. The community's responses offer valuable insights into Patek Philippe's clasp offerings and sizing considerations for the 5212A.

The Patek Philippe Reference 5212A Calatrava Weekly Calendar introduced a novel complication to the brand's lineup, displaying not only the day and date but also the current week number and month. This function is particularly useful for individuals who track their schedules and business activities by week. The watch maintains the classic Calatrava aesthetic while incorporating a complex yet legible dial layout for its unique calendar display.
Crafted in stainless steel, a less common material for Patek Philippe complications, the 5212A features a 40mm case with a distinctive stepped lug design. It houses the self-winding caliber 26-330 S C J SE, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. This movement provides a power reserve of approximately 35-45 hours and incorporates a new base caliber for the brand, developed specifically for this weekly calendar mechanism.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking a Patek Philippe with a distinctive and practical complication, offered in a robust and understated material. Its introduction marked a notable addition to the Calatrava collection, demonstrating Patek Philippe's continued innovation in calendar functions. The steel construction also positions it as a more accessible entry point for some collectors into the brand's complicated offerings.
Unfortunately Patek don't make steel deployant clasps.
My best suggestion is definitely to acquire a clasp in *steel* for this model (rather than in Platinum), should you decide to replace the original one from Patek with a deployant clasp, since steel is the material of the case ;-) Looking forward to seeing your pictures once this beauty is on your wrist! Have a great time on WatchProSite! ;-)
Since I cannot travel due to the COVID restrictions. I spoke to the Singapore Patek service center. They said they do have a 14mm deployment clasp in steel. My only doubt is whether it will be the correct size for this model? I am ready to change the strap also.
Will surely post pictures once I receive the watch.
Patek for sure don't make a 16mm SS deployant, I wasn't aware of a 14mm SS deployant (which piece is this from) but if they can supply one I think it would work, the strap is currently 20mm to 16mm but 20mm to 14mm with a custom strap I think would work - after all the 6007 and 5370 are 22 to 16mm so the same reduction of 6mm.
Do you know which piece the 14 mm deployant clasp from?
