Foversta's initial impressions of the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5212A from Baselworld 2019 highlight its unique weekly calendar complication and improved Caliber 26-330 movement. This article delves into the design and technical aspects that make this steel Calatrava a notable release, sparking community debate on its aesthetic and functional appeal.

The Patek Philippe Reference 5212A Calatrava Weekly Calendar introduced a novel complication to the brand's lineup, displaying not only the day and date but also the current week number and month. This function is particularly useful for individuals who track their schedules and business activities by week. The watch maintains the classic Calatrava aesthetic while incorporating a complex yet legible dial layout for its unique calendar display.
Crafted in stainless steel, a less common material for Patek Philippe complications, the 5212A features a 40mm case with a distinctive stepped lug design. It houses the self-winding caliber 26-330 S C J SE, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. This movement provides a power reserve of approximately 35-45 hours and incorporates a new base caliber for the brand, developed specifically for this weekly calendar mechanism.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking a Patek Philippe with a distinctive and practical complication, offered in a robust and understated material. Its introduction marked a notable addition to the Calatrava collection, demonstrating Patek Philippe's continued innovation in calendar functions. The steel construction also positions it as a more accessible entry point for some collectors into the brand's complicated offerings.
also moving the hours batons from the periphery towards the center of the dial...perhaps it's just me, but isn't that a bit disturbing..??
The idea of a weekly calendar is quite unusual. Certainly a watch to be part of a larger collection, but probably not one someone might want to own as their only Patek. I am also not a fan of the date window, but with this complication you need a date and Iām not sure how else it could be executed
Certainly different, I like it. I think it fits nicely in my collection and have asked my AD to order one.
... but I was thinking that it's a pretty busy dial. LOT's of Characters! I actually feel with this dial the white date aperture works well to clearly highlight this function.
and different without being oer the top unusual. It will fit in nicely with my collection...Jim
Better symmetry, but the number has to rotate to show upright.
