salihyoluc seeks community advice on his next Patek Philippe acquisitions, having already decided on the 5270G. His dilemma centers on selecting a second, rare piece from three highly exclusive options: the 5711P, 5131G, or 5131J. This post highlights the challenges collectors face when balancing personal wearability with the desire for rarity and exclusivity in high-end watch collecting.
) that it will be produced but will be very limited, sort of the situation of the reference 5131. The dream is to get this one now, and be on the list for the 5131, but the chances are not great on that one
The Patek Philippe Reference 130 is a significant chronograph model, notable for its classic design and the various configurations in which it was produced. While many examples feature a standard chronograph layout, specific iterations, such as those with split-seconds functionality, represent a higher echelon of horological complexity within the reference. The model is recognized for its balanced proportions and the legibility of its dial, making it a favored choice among collectors seeking vintage Patek Philippe chronographs.
This particular example of the Reference 130 is distinguished by its yellow gold case, measuring 33mm in diameter. It houses a manual-winding movement, typical for chronographs of its era, and is fitted with a crystal, likely acrylic or sapphire depending on the specific production period and any subsequent servicing. The case construction and movement finishing adhere to Patek Philippe's high standards for precision and durability.
Collector interest in the Reference 130 is driven by its historical importance as an early chronograph from the brand and the rarity of certain dial and complication variations. The presence of unique characteristics, such as Breguet numerals, specific dial signatures, or the absence of a tachymeter scale, can significantly influence its appeal. The reference appeals to those who appreciate the foundational designs of Patek Philippe's chronograph lineage.
I am not sure what kind of advice you are looking for!!!!! My suggestion would be to buy the 5270G if you are able to and can afford it! the odds of getting any of the other 3 pieces you mentioned are very very low. It seems to me that you are new to Patek and are fixated on the rarity and potential investment value; why not start out with some of the more "ordinary" pieces and work your way up; enjoying the "thrill of the hunt" on the way. I acquire pieces that I like and admire and revere beca

Dear salihyoluc, Thanks for sharing your choice issues with us. One of the founding reasons for PuristS website was to share passion, opinion and information with like-minded people. If not for PuristS, we may not have enough watch-friends in our locations. I am not a Patek Philippe specialist and have only few pieces so my "opinion" is purely as an independent observer, based on the words you wrote. I will not use the common excuse of "go with your feelings" because the reason that you ask is t
The three you are considering are veeeeery different pièces, and they are quite expensive. You should take the time to consider each of them in a longer period. I have a " trick " to make my mind when I can't decide. I take or find pictures of the watches I am considering, and I look at them several times a day. At the end of one month, i am able to say if love is lasting, and on which piece. Taking your time is the most important and enjoyable thing, as well as the hunt. You will maybe feel tha
Dear Salihyoluc, I think you have clearly laid out your thinking and the situation (I don't judge or interpret you mentioning the prices and the fact that they are all expensive watches as an indication that you just want to go for them bc of high price, I think you just want to lay out the context for us to consider - and price is an important element of any purchase). From my experience, please don't go for the second or third choice just for availability. Not at that level. Try to get the one
I like it but imo it's too expensive for such a simpe watch. 5070P gets my vote Now if it would be a 5131J .... I would doubt 5131J or G .... for me it's the J, it has a much warmer feeling
