GLau presents a compelling comparison between two exquisite timepieces, the Patek Philippe Ref. 5575 and a Ulysse Nardin enamel dial watch, asking the community to weigh in on their preferred travel companion. This discussion delves into the nuances of aesthetics, legibility, and personal connection that define a 'travel watch' beyond mere complications.
Had them both on my wrist and after a 3 hours flight, I could not decide which was better !!
Then I thought more and my conclusion is: for short haul, the UN enamel because the dial is so so well done !! whereas for long haul, I could spend time admiring the realistic moon and also try counting the number of stars which would provide entertainment for the long flight time !!
Would love to hear what PuristS think.
Cheers,
Gordon

Never ever travel with just one watch. One is for the heart and one is supporting travelling and the job :-) I used to travel about 220 days per year and always did it like this - one for daytime with the customer and one for "dreaming" latenight. It is just so great to have options. Oliver
advice against wearing this way...one swing and the UN crown will hit the PP case...ouch! I know you must be a careful person but wearing this way will have to make it tight...not comfortable. I will wear on both wrist, criss-cross my arms to look at both...:)) To answer you question: both...PP moon is the travelling must. Rgds Raymond
I would bring both. For more pleasant surroundings and company id wear the patek. For late nights out with a little bar hoping , aka martin sheen. Id wear the un. Cheers glad you have both gordon. Best Geross
it would be the UN, because there is so much to appreciate and it stays under the radar, which is always my preference. Plus it's more legible and without a date, it's easy enough to set when crossing timezones. Both beauties, and I'm amazed that you actually travel with both these pieces strapped to the same wrist!
Let me state the obvious: 1. You posted this question in the Patek Philippe forum. 2. The Ulysse Nardin you posted isn't specifically a travel watch. If you posted the same photo in the Ulysse Nardin forum and asked for non-travel watch with horse photo, then people may start voting for the UN watch...
While both are absolutely stunning watches and have great merits of their own, I much prefer the UN for one simple reason: legibility...I just cant read very easily the Patek, and for me, legibility is very important...I know that we do not always wear these watches to be read in extreme conditions, but my engineering side always takes over my artistic side in the department of legibility..I am sure the Patek is more legible in person than in pictures, but in pictures the UN gets my vote for tra
