Patekova shares his initial impressions of the Patek Philippe Ref. 5960/1A, a steel annual calendar chronograph that defied initial market expectations. His post delves into the watch's unique complications and the polarizing design of its integrated bracelet, inviting the community to weigh in on its appeal and versatility.

The Patek Philippe Complications reference 5960A, introduced in stainless steel, represents a significant offering within the brand's annual calendar chronograph series. This particular reference is notable for being the first annual calendar chronograph from Patek Philippe to be offered in a non-precious metal, making it a distinctive piece in the Complications collection. It combines practical complications with a robust case material, appealing to collectors seeking a blend of utility and horological complexity.
This reference features a 40.5mm stainless steel case, housing the self-winding Caliber CH 28-520 QA 24H. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 55 hours and is visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The dial is presented in white, protected by a sapphire crystal, and the watch is water-resistant to 30 meters. The integrated stainless steel bracelet complements the case material, providing a cohesive aesthetic.
The 5960A in stainless steel holds a specific position for collectors due to its material choice and the integrated bracelet, differentiating it from its precious metal counterparts. Its combination of an annual calendar and chronograph functions, along with the 24-hour indication, makes it a highly functional and mechanically interesting timepiece. The special hand set and case back decoration mentioned for this specific 5960A further emphasize its unique attributes within the production run.
Beautiful picture and awes me watch. Mine is waiting for me at the salon I love my 5960/1a white dial a lot. And also thanks to the bracelet. So my POV is strict : bracelet bracelet bracelet cheers
I am deeply convinced that the 5960A didn't have the success it deserves because Patek said the bracelet cannot be removed. Now, the big thing with the A versions is the dial. Young, fresh, dynamic, less formal than in the noble metals ( at the exception of the G which shares the same style than the A ). Horologically, it is a great watch, as you said, with an interesting combination of complications. As for the bracelet, I am in the naysayers camp. I really don't like its aesthetics, which I fi
its advantages. Bracelet is more sporty and comfortable for the summer, whereas leather is more formal and stylish ! However, my comments only from your photos as I have yet seen them in the metal. Please keep us updated on your evolving thoughts ! Cheers, Gordon
I was strongly in favor of its original bracelet at the start, and that still remains my preference, but I've been seeing many great strap versions over time that I don't mind that either now... The specific strap you put on your watch goes along wonderfully with its dial. And I'm willing to bet my dollar that this black version (by far my favorite, save the Leicester -011) will appreciate significantly over time... Best wishes.
I agree when this came out in the white dial, it doesnât have the usual crazy demand of a âStainless Steelâ Patek watch and is surprised even after the discontinuation, interest is still lagging. However your black one is a different story since itâs only produced for a year so itâs a potential unicorn or dark horse. Personally I like it and would love to own one. I wonder nowadays how many buy watches for potential future or really âoh my, I really like this watch and have to get it and wear it
My fondness has really grown tremendously since becoming an owner. Of course we all do it with our own watches. But I will say the black â60A is like enjoying a fine concert/meal because it is worth the steep price of admission and stays with you long after. In terms of bracelet, I love its comfort and do not intend to remove it. I do like how it looks on a beautiful leather strap especially yours with the red stitiching. Perhaps one day in the future I will be tempted to order a strap. I would
