Noak(marc.gmt8) initiates a compelling discussion on the Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167, questioning the perceived disparity in appreciation between its rose gold (R) and stainless steel (A) versions. His post delves into the aesthetic and practical considerations that might influence collector preferences, particularly regarding the 5167R's styling versatility and the challenge of finding complementary third-party straps. This exploration offers valuable insights for both prospective and current Aquanaut owners.

Patek Philippe Aquanaut Reference 5167
The Reference 5167 represents the 40mm stainless steel iteration within Patek Philippe's Aquanaut model line. Introduced in 2007 and remaining in current production, this reference features a black dial and establishes the standard sizing for the steel Aquanaut offering.
The 40mm stainless steel case houses the automatic Caliber 324 S C movement, providing 45 hours of power reserve. The watch incorporates a sapphire crystal and smooth bezel configuration. Water resistance extends to 120 meters, while the distinctive composite rubber strap displays an embossed check pattern that complements the case design.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking contemporary Patek Philippe sports watch execution in stainless steel. The 5167 offers entry into the Aquanaut model range while maintaining the manufacturing standards associated with the Geneva manufacture. Its ongoing production status ensures availability through authorized channels for both new collectors and those expanding existing collections.
I like the Aquanaut in all forms, although I've never seen the green version. The rose version is very nice, but maybe not quite as under the radar as the steel version. Depends what you are looking for, and it's just a degree of difference. Most people wouldn't notice either one! Congratulations! Sorry I can't help with straps, but I like the original.
So I think the 5167R is no exception (in fact, it's also *very* hard to find at any AD).... Which one then we prefer, between the A and R versions, is of course a matter of taste....but since I do own the A, let me vote for the R here! Thanks for a beautiful series of 5167R pictures! ;-)
Yes, R is definitely less under the radar compared to A but I find A slightly underwhelming. Blue and green are nice too, I would prefer the blue more but both are just a tad too big for me. The original strap is nice and fits the watch well but at times, I do wish to be able to change to a 3rd party strap just to spice things up.
I had always admired beautiful photos posted by other forum users. Since I have some time at hand now, I am trying my best to learn how to take better photos and posting some of these photos on Instagram as well.
Vacations, experiences, but also things that communicate class but donβt attract attention - A being one of them, WG or P being another as opposed to RG and YG. I see Aquanaut in RG as something you will wear with connaisseurs, but for everyday A beats it in how easy it is to wear.
is the price difference .
