zizi ww's acquisition of a Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 96, double-signed by Shreve, Crump & Low, offers a compelling look into the emotional and historical value that can outweigh pristine condition in vintage collecting. His post highlights how unique provenance, like a retailer signature and a personal engraving, transforms a 'normal' piece into something truly special. This discussion explores the nuances of collecting vintage Patek Philippe, particularly the Ref. 96, and the enduring appeal of watches with a story.

Its 31 mm case is not everybody's taste and it is perfect. The Connoisseurs will enjoy it. It is a watch which is really charming, and its size contributes to that. I fell on several, and each time, it was with great pleasure. Here some specimens.
Congratulation. Ref 96 is always pleasure to wear and small size is not a problem at all Enjoy it with a good health
Hope to see one in flesh one day. Best, Vin
This is an example of pure passion. A unique watch, with an odd dial, and a journey back in time on its engraved back. What might have been the story? Where are these people now? A refreshing alternative to all the me-too 5711s and frying-pan-sized current models. Love the dealer name - " Shreve, Crump & Low" how great. Just read the companys history.
Especially that "Betty". So much personality
Especially as normally people worry about engravings damaging the resale value of a watch. This one was bought out of passion, not to make a profit.
