Patek_3944 initiates a discussion on the challenging decision of compressing his Patek Philippe collection from five pieces to two or three. He seeks community advice on which references to keep and what new piece to acquire, openly addressing his desire for 'respect' or 'prestige' within the collecting world.

Hello Patek Lovers,
I am seriously considering compressing my collection.

Some excellent posts came in with 2 piece (ABSOLUTELY AMAZING) collections......

I own the following:-

5035J
5110J
5196J
5127G
5296G

I personally prefer the 37-38mm size dynamic.

I think the 5110 world time is a keeper.......
The 5127G is my favourite Calatrava (and I added the very costly deployant buckle)

I am thinking..... SELL the 5035, 5296 and 5196

BUET WHAT DO I GET?????

Possibly a 5170 ????

Do you think I am crazy?

Will I be more respected for the higher level 3 pieces than the 5 pieces I currently own ???? (yes I am an insecure Patek owner)

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5130

The Patek Philippe Complications reference 5130, introduced in 2006, is a World Time watch that succeeded the popular reference 5110. This model maintained the distinctive World Time complication, allowing for simultaneous display of time in 24 different time zones. Its design evolved with a slightly larger case and updated dial aesthetics, distinguishing it from its predecessor while retaining the core functionality that defines Patek Philippe's travel timepieces. It was produced until 2017.

The watch features an 18k rose gold case measuring 39.5mm in diameter and 9.8mm in thickness, housing the self-winding Caliber 240 HU movement. This ultra-thin movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case back, provides a power reserve of 48 hours. The dial is silver or opaline with a guilloché center, protected by a sapphire crystal. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters.

Reference 5130 appeals to collectors seeking a sophisticated travel complication from Patek Philippe. Its larger case size compared to the 5110 offered a more contemporary presence on the wrist, while its classic World Time mechanism remained a hallmark of the brand's technical prowess. The model was available in various precious metals, with the rose gold variant offering a warm aesthetic.

Ownership of tangible items may attract envy, burglary, or robbery. It might result in admiration of your taste by the like-minded. But ownership cannot bring respect, which must be earned in other ways. As for the watch choice, you might consider your favorite version of the 5960. Park

If you're considering getting another piece, then don't SELL anything for cash. Trade the watches you want to get rid of towards another piece - you will get better value retention that way. And don't rush into any decisions, take your time, look around and make the right deal.

Move up into a stellar example of a Patek Philippe 3940. Your current collection of Patek would get you into a great 3940 and leave you some money to spare, perhaps a lot of money to spare. I don’t know if those 5 watches would get you into a 3970. I think you would really enjoy a Perpetual Chronograph. The 3970 would very likely serve as an “exit” watch ( if such a thing exists for any of us). The 3940 is an excellent watch and is more obtainable.

If you want to use your money to get respect, donate to charity. Even if you do it anonymously, you'll respect yourself. If you want to use your money to get a Patek, choose what you like best. Even if there are people who respect you for your watches, do you really care what they think? Perhaps, the people whose respect you would value the most won't give it based on the watches you own.

Maybe keep the 5110 and/or 5127 as you mentioned. I would swap out the others and diversify the collection with another brand. Maybe add a Lange, Rolex, etc. or an independent? You would have an awesome 3 watch collection with 1 Patek, 1 JLC, and a third piece. Just my opinion, although I know you are a Patek guy
