GLau's post offers a rare glimpse into a Patek Philippe World Time 'GTG' (Get-Together), where collectors convene to share their passion for these horological masterpieces. This article delves into the nuances of collecting Patek Philippe World Time references, particularly those featuring exquisite enamel dials, and explores the camaraderie and 'poisoning' that occurs when enthusiasts gather. GLau's vivid account and accompanying photographs highlight the artistic merit and collector appeal of these highly sought-after timepieces.
poisoning ☠️ of each other ! 🤪
We had a PuristS who has been opposed to collecting WT because the WT function is only valid half the year due to date light saving time. He is absolutely right ! Furthermore, he is on the fence on a 5131.
Hence, what better to do than organize a GTG to push him over the fence 🤣 and explained that he will be buying a piece of art and not a WT watch😇. He bought this argument😉. Furthermore, another PuristS with 5231J was being coaxed by the rest to go for the set 😂. Additionally, the third PuriSt with a 5131 set (not yours truly) was being pushed by us to go for 5231s but he was too smart and did not take the bait/poison ☠️😫
Overall, lots of conversations about the horological industry and war stories vs examining watches. 😇

About the Patek Philippe Patek Philippe World time Enamel Map Ref. 5131J
The Patek Philippe World Time Enamel Map reference 5131J stands as a masterpiece within the manufacture s distinguished World Time collection, representing the culmination of over eight decades of horological expertise in displaying multiple time zones. First introduced as part of Patek Philippe s modern World Time series, this reference pays homage to Louis Cottier s revolutionary world time complication, which the Geneva manufacture has refined and perfected since the 1930s. The 5131J exemplifies Patek Philippe s commitment to combining haute horlogerie with artistic craftsmanship, featuring an exquisite hand-painted enamel world map that transforms the timepiece into a work of wearable art. This reference holds particular significance as it bridges the gap between practical complications and decorative arts, embodying the manufacture s philosophy of creating timepieces that serve both functional and aesthetic purposes.
At the heart of the 5131J beats the automatic caliber 240 HU, a thin movement measuring just 3.88mm in height that demonstrates Patek Philippe s mastery in micro-mechanical engineering. This self-winding movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and provides a minimum 48-hour power reserve, while the off-center micro-rotor in 22k gold allows for an unobstructed view of the beautifully finished movement through the sapphire caseback. The 240 HU caliber drives the sophisticated world time display, featuring a 24-hour disc and city disc that rotate to indicate the time in 24 different time zones simultaneously, controlled by a pusher at 10 o clock for easy adjustment when traveling.
The 39.5mm yellow gold case houses a stunning blue enamel dial featuring a meticulously hand-painted world map, with the continents rendered in remarkable detail against the azure background. The dial s artisanal quality is evident in every brushstroke, as each map is individually created by master enamelers using traditional grand feu techniques. Notable design elements include the applied gold hour markers, the elegant leaf-shaped hands, and the perfectly balanced layout that accommodates both the decorative map and the functional city ring displaying major world capitals. From a collectibility standpoint, the 5131J occupies a prestigious position within the contemporary Patek Philippe catalog, appealing to collectors who appreciate both mechanical sophistication and artistic excellence. Its limited production numbers, combined with the time-intensive enamel work and the enduring appeal of the world time complication, ensure its status as a highly sought-after reference among discerning collectors and connoisseurs of fine watchmaking.
