GreatPilot@me.com's initial impressions of the Patek Philippe Ref. 6007A-001 offer a valuable, firsthand account of this highly discussed timepiece. His detailed observations on its aesthetics and wearability provide essential context for understanding a watch that often sparks debate. This article synthesizes community insights, exploring the nuances of Patek Philippe's independence and the Ref. 6007's place within the brand's legacy.

Hi everyone, my 6007 just arrived and it is sooooo much better in person than in pictures.  The Dial color is beautiful, the checkerboard middle section with the inside middle track is mesmerizing and  complimented wonderfully with the muted grey strap with white stitching.  The first thing I noticed when I put it on was the lugs are longer than other Calatrava’s.  I mean it almost looks too big on me and I commonly wear 42mm-44mm watches on my 6.75 inch wrist.  The back, of course has the “New Manufacturer” on the back and while I don’t prefer that it certainly lets one know what the watch commemorates and pays tribute to the biggest and most successful independent watch maker n the world...Jim

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 6007

The Patek Philippe reference 6007 is a contemporary Calatrava model, distinguished by its unique aesthetic that diverges from the more traditional interpretations of the line. It was introduced as a limited edition to commemorate the inauguration of Patek Philippe's new manufacturing building in Plan-les-Ouates, Geneva. This reference showcases a sportier and more modern design language compared to its predecessors, appealing to collectors interested in Patek Philippe's evolving design philosophy within its classic collections. Its design elements, such as the dial texture and strap, set it apart within the Calatrava family.

The watch features a round case crafted from stainless steel, a material less common for Patek Philippe's Calatrava line, especially for commemorative editions. It houses an automatic movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. The dial is characterized by a distinctive texture, often described as a carbon-fiber pattern, and features applied Arabic numerals. The sapphire crystal protects the dial, ensuring clarity and durability.

This reference holds particular interest for collectors who appreciate commemorative pieces and those seeking a Calatrava with a contemporary edge. Its limited production run and specific celebratory context contribute to its collectibility. The 6007 represents a moment in Patek Philippe's history, marking a significant operational milestone while offering a fresh take on a foundational model.

I know the date is an issue with purists but I like it, I also like it is SS and limited, a keeper both for looks and value...Jim

....but can't get an allocation, unfortunately. Who cares about long/short lugs or date windows when the value pops 3x for owners...the "feel good" and happiness makes up for it.

Casual and sporty really describes the 6007, I actually like the longer lugs but do wish they were curved down a little...Jim

And you've highlighted something important that's rarely mentioned or noticed, but which is actually one of the chief reasons why I'm crazy about Patek -- it is (and will hopefully always be) an independent brand! ;-) Enjoy your 6007A for long, as you are awaiting another big entry, if I recall correctly! Cheers.
