ArmisT's original post offers a candid look at the Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph Ref. 5968A, prompting a fascinating discussion on wearability and collector preferences. His personal reflections on the watch's comfort and visibility, especially compared to other Aquanaut references, provide a valuable starting point for understanding its place within the Patek Philippe lineup. This article synthesizes community insights, offering a comprehensive perspective on the 5968A and its siblings.

Yesterday was a nice sunny day, so I wanted to wind some pieces up and let them exercise their gears outside (note: I didn’t set the dates).💪🏽
I know a number of members here have this and/or other 5968 versions.  But when there’s also a ‘simpler’ Aquanaut eg 5167 or 5164, I get the impression that it’s those pieces that are worn much more regularly than this chronograph is.  Just a general impression I get, but it’s hard to say for sure.
What I can say for sure is that the Aquanauts are very comfortable to wear.

About the Patek Philippe Aquanaut Ref. 5167

Patek Philippe Aquanaut Reference 5167

The Reference 5167 represents the 40mm stainless steel iteration within Patek Philippe's Aquanaut model line. Introduced in 2007 and remaining in current production, this reference features a black dial and establishes the standard sizing for the steel Aquanaut offering.

The 40mm stainless steel case houses the automatic Caliber 324 S C movement, providing 45 hours of power reserve. The watch incorporates a sapphire crystal and smooth bezel configuration. Water resistance extends to 120 meters, while the distinctive composite rubber strap displays an embossed check pattern that complements the case design.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking contemporary Patek Philippe sports watch execution in stainless steel. The 5167 offers entry into the Aquanaut model range while maintaining the manufacturing standards associated with the Geneva manufacture. Its ongoing production status ensures availability through authorized channels for both new collectors and those expanding existing collections.

I didn’t realize it before, but looking at it in the sunlight yesterday that is exactly what I felt. And there’s a similar quality to the black Rolex ExplorerII.

So does red and black. And yellow and black.🤣 I guess any contrasting color with pop makes for a nice combo with black. Top of list I might include orange, yellow, and turquoise. It depends on the execution as well.

find the clasp very uncomfortable und the orange is hard to match with suits.... but otherwise it is for me the best Aquanaut iteration

Do you have any other Aquanauts, or one is enough for you from this line? Wondering if you’d wear the other more, although clasp would be similar I expect.

With the orange strap it screams across the room I feel (maybe it’s in my head). I definitely a low key guy, so I wouldn’t want such attention (or judgement) based on a watch. I’d only be willing to share normally if at a gtg with people like on this forum.
