KMII shares his admiration for the Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921, a piece he considers a future grail. His post details his first impressions, particularly the surprising wearability of its cushion case and the unique dial orientation, offering a personal perspective on this distinctive timepiece.

Apart from a well known liking for Chopard and Grand Seiko, there are definitely other brands I regularly follow and where I can certainly imagine myself becoming a customer in the near or perhaps somewhat more distant future. And VC is definitely one of those. While some pieces I covet are hard to find (i.e. 222 Jumbo), others are part of the current catalogue and very much of my wish list, even if not necessarily immediately feasible.

The other day I had the opportunity to try one of the modern ones I really, really admire, namely the Historiques American 1921. Next to the modern rendering of the 1972 probably my favourite. Now I am far from being a rose gold person myself but in this application it was hard to resist the lure of the overall result smile And if I am somewhat more patient, there is always the platinum. wink

The first surprise was the size - on pictures I felt it may be too large for me, on the wrist the impression was of a perfect size. Sure, smaller would work but it did not look like I was an overeager child with his father's watch wink I guess the very short lugs help and the cushion shape makes it, I don't know, softer?

The rest is simplicity itself, in a good way. The orientation of the dial and the crown in the unusual position are a quirk and potentially helpful while 'motoring' and overall they just produce a relatively special look. There are otherwise no unique features, just a very, very well executed whole - dial, hands, case & movement. And no date, or automatic rotor to disturb the purist wink

Definitely a watch for which I would bend my white metal rule and one to put on the wishlist biggrin

About the CHRONOSWISS Historiques Ref. 1972Prestige

The Chronoswiss Historiques 1972Prestige is a distinctive model within the Historiques collection, characterized by its non-traditional case shape. It represents Chronoswiss's exploration of design beyond conventional round forms, offering a unique aesthetic that appeals to collectors seeking individuality and historical design influences from the early 1970s. This reference stands out for its commitment to a specific period's design language while maintaining Chronoswiss's signature attention to detail.

The watch features an 18k white gold case, measuring 38mm x 38mm, which houses the automatic caliber C. 125. This movement provides a power reserve of 40 hours. The silver dial is protected by a sapphire crystal, ensuring clarity and durability. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear but not for immersion. The fixed bezel complements the overall case design.

This reference appeals to collectors who appreciate independent watchmaking and specific vintage design cues, particularly those drawn to the 1970s aesthetic. It offers a blend of traditional craftsmanship with a less common case silhouette, making it a noteworthy piece for those interested in Chronoswiss's more experimental designs. The inclusion of a date complication adds practical functionality to its distinctive appearance.
