Christianch's return to the Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921, this time in pink gold, offers a compelling look at a beloved reference. His detailed comparison to the white gold version and appreciation for Vacheron's updated packaging provide valuable insights for collectors considering this distinctive timepiece. This article explores why the American 1921 continues to captivate enthusiasts, blending historical homage with modern wearability.
Dear All,
I was visiting the Vacheron Boutique to get my 222 looked at as it kept losing a few minutes.
For a few weeks I had been looking for a watch to celebrate my upcoming 50th Birthday from other brands, but I ended up buying something I already had in the past but in a different metal: the Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921 Ref. 82035/000R-9359 in Pink Gold. What better way to mark the occasion!
My review of the previous white gold version is available here ( www.watchprosite.com ) β amazing that it is almost 4 years ago! (White gold version now happily with another family member).
I think this is actually the more elegant version. The warmth of the rose gold against the silver dial just works beautifully. The brown alligator strap complements everything perfectly β very classic, very refined.
One thing I really appreciate: Vacheron now delivers the watch in a travel case instead of those massive boxes nobody knows what to do with. I picked the burgundy and it is genuinely useful. Small detail but it shows they get it π
Of course, I now have to get used to reading the tilted dial again π It takes a day or two before your brain stops doing the mental rotation. But that is part of the charm β there is simply nothing else like it!
Enough talking, happy to share some photos of my new beauty!
Best Regards, Christian

The Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921 is a distinctive reinterpretation of a cushion-shaped watch originally produced by the manufacture for the American market in the 1920s. This reference is characterized by its unique diagonal display, with the crown positioned at the 1 o'clock position and the dial rotated 45 degrees clockwise. This design was historically intended to allow drivers to read the time without removing their hands from the steering wheel, offering both a functional and aesthetically unconventional presentation within the Historiques collection.
This particular iteration of the American 1921 features a case crafted from precious metal, often rose gold, with a polished finish that highlights its cushion shape and stepped bezel. The watch is typically fitted with a manual-winding mechanical movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case back, providing a power reserve suitable for daily wear. The crystal protecting the dial is also sapphire, ensuring clarity and scratch resistance.
The American 1921 appeals to collectors seeking pieces with historical provenance and an unconventional design. Its distinctive orientation and vintage inspiration make it a conversation piece and a unique offering within Vacheron Constantin's contemporary lineup. Various sizes have been produced, catering to different wrist preferences while maintaining the core design principles of the original 1921 model.
This is a gorgeous timepiece. And rose gold makes the vintage vibe even more palpable, imo. Wear it in the best of health and happy 50th anniversary! Best, Emmanuel
I agree the rose gold is much more classic
This one has been on my mind since its re-introduction, and I am certain that my next purchase will either be the 1921, or the Reverso Septantieme, depending on the moment in time it happens to align well with my finances.... Thanks a bunch for sharing these excellent images, cheers, Filip
It is certainly an elegant watch, but it also dresses down for jeans and casual moments. I fully agree about the new travel cases. Great choice, congratulations, and Happy Birthday!
Looks perfect on your wrist!
I think the introduction of the smaller size made it much more popular !
