Audemars Piguet Historical Piece… The Jumbo Royal Oak Ref 5402ST. “A” Series Here is an iconic masterpiece from Audemars Piguet. Designed by the world famous Gerald Genta. This was the watch that AP helped save their watch business. It was originally designed to compete directly with the Rolex Submariner and successfully has done so even with a price tag almost 8 time that of the Rolex brand new. Not only is the watch famous for the design but it also used perhaps one of the most famous Calibre movements AP2121 originally designed by JLC. Noted as one of the best quality automatic movements of the century. I have had this watch completely overhauled both mechanically and cosmetically by my local watchmaker who polished by hand each and every part, the dial was cleaned but not refinished, the movement was cleaned and re-oiled and all functions work as they should.. There are no boxes or papers with the sale of this watch. This is a Series A watch with a number less than 2000. Production of this watch was circa 1972-1974 and one in this condition is really rare to find. Watches in this condition or worse have fetched from $25K to just over $40K in recent auctions… Below are pictures taken of the actual watch on February 15th, 2013. I will not be wearing the watch now that is has been put on the market for sale or trade.
