Description

Sellers Comments:

Hello,

I'm selling a super rare, Patek Philippe, ref: 2526, with perfect, mint enamel dial.

History:

The 2526 , especially in the super rare Pink Gold version is considered by many Patek collectors as:

THE most elegant gentleman's dress watch that Patek has ever produced.

A true master-piece, with significant historical importance (first reference to house Patek's newly introduced automatic movement).

The 2526 Pink Gold wristwatch is extremely rare timepiece, with only "50" examples ever produced, from 1953-60, vs the more common yellow gold version (approx. 480 examples).

This particular example is the 1st series, with riveted hour markers, which was a much more costly manufacturing endeavor. As such, the first series is more highly desirable to the serious Patek collector, as later enamelled dial 2526 had glued on hour markers.

This is one watch where you can clearly see the "Golden Age of Patek Philippe" when the company was run by watchmakers and technicians, and not by it's accountants. The watch is completely over engineered, with virtually no expense spared.

The 2526 Pink gold comes with the following package:

1.Original Patek Philippe brown leather box (which is period correct). These Patek vintage boxes are becoming next to impossible to find, especially one in this condition.

2. Original Patek Philippe Archives certificate.

3. Patek Service papers (as per client request, case was not polished, stated on the Patek invoice). Dated December 14, 2005.

4. Original Pink gold buckle (shown in only one picture). Once again, vintage Patek "Pink Gold" buckles are next to impossible to find.

5. Copy of the original 1950's Patek Philippe Authorized Dealers Presentation, on how to present the "New" Patek 2526 ,headed:

"There Has Never Before Been a Watch Like This!"

6. Patek Philippe vintage alligator strap (black).

7. High-end, custom made Louisiana alligator strap (brown).

Condition:

Dial:

100% Patek original. Off-white (creamy), enamelled dial. Stunning, flawless, perfect. A visual master-piece.

The most beautiful dial that I have ever seen (20 years of collecting), further enhanced by the lovely dauphine hands.

Rated: 100%, as new.

Case:

100% Patek Philippe original. Stunning calatrava case. Heavy, over-sized (35.5mm), 2 piece case, with beautiful thick/fat lugs. The case is in mint condition, appears to have been very, very lightly polished (maybe once??), and still maintains original hallmark, which is strong and deep. The case back has a very light historical inscription, which is beautifully done, and adds a lot of character to this magnificent piece. If you chose, you can have the inscription polished off (it's quite light). I personally would never dream of doing this,as I actually like the inscription (date of inscription, corresponds to date of sale of the watch).

Rated: 95%

Movement:

A Master-piece. Stunning, mint, 30 jewel automatic movement, with guilloche solid gold rotor, breguet over-coil, swan neck regulator etc. etc. Visually and technically , the most beautiful, and important automatic movement ever produced (IMHO).

Full movement servicing: Patek Philippe Service Papers: Dated December 14, 2005.

Rated: 97%

I have seen pictures of the 2526, that is housed in the Patek museum in Geneva. I can confidently say that my 2526 Pink Gold is equal, in terms of condition. As you know, in the collecting world, it's all about condition.

On Nov. 11/07, Antiquorum held an auction where a "Mint" 2526 Pink gold was sold for a staggering 175,000 CHF. I am the first to admit that this price is an anomaly. However, what the auction result did high-light is the enormous investment potential of this super rare "Pink Gold" 2526. A very well known watch dealer (high end wristwatches) had a 2526 in Pink gold, with bracelet, not as good condition, for $76,000 US. It's no longer on the site, so I presume it's sold (I kept a copy of the advertisement).

i) To find a 2526 is rare.

ii) To find a 2526, with perfect dial, and Mint condition is even more rare.

iii) To find a 2526 in "Pink Gold (only 50 ever produced) with perfect dial , mint condition, with original box, pink gold buckle, archives, Patek Philippe Service Papers etc, etc, is an extremely rare event indeed.

I'm a very well known member of Timezone, and the watch community at large.

Price: $68,000 U.S

i) Method of payment: Bank wire

ii) If you are interested in purchasing the 2526 Pink gold wristwatch, we can discuss methods of delivery of this very rare, and important timepiece.

📖 About This Reference

The Patek Philippe Reference 2526 is notable as the brand's first serially produced automatic wristwatch. Introduced in 1953, it marked a significant technical advancement for Patek Philippe, housing a self-winding movement at a time when manual-wind mechanisms were still prevalent. This reference is recognized for its clean aesthetic and robust construction, establishing a foundation for future automatic timepieces from the manufacture. The watch features a 35 mm case, available in 18k yellow gold, 18k rose gold, or platinum. It is powered by the caliber 12-600 AT, an automatic movement with a Gyromax balance and a solid gold rotor, offering a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The crystal is acrylic, protecting a silver dial that often features enamel. The case design is characterized by its smooth bezel and often includes a screw-down case back, contributing to its water resistance. For collectors, the Reference 2526 is highly sought after due to its historical significance as Patek Philippe's inaugural automatic model. Variants exist with different dial configurations, including those with applied indexes and small seconds, which can vary between the gold and platinum versions. The presence of original bracelets, particularly on rose gold models, can also add to its collectibility, as these were less common than leather strap configurations.

I got the Calatrava 2551g and paired it with the R. This model is the successor to the 2526 and is equipped with the excellent automatic movement 12-600.
The Calatrava 2551g paired with the R model showcases a successor to the 2526 with an exceptional automatic movement 12-600. Unique design elements, limited production, and a sturdy bracelet make this watch stand out.

Is the nickname "tropical" appropriate for these attractive enamel-dial models?
2526j & 3428r have enamel dials with different case thicknesses due to varying automatic movements. 2526 has 12-600, 3428 is thinner with 27-460. The 2526j features a distinctive bracelet type with dimples. The use of 'tropical' is questioned.

General population opinion versus collectors
Vintage Patek Philippe watch ref 2551 praised for elegance and style. Despite being undervalued, collector prefers its unique design, characterful dial, and classic movement over flashy modern pieces costing more.

love the 2526
I have the R (Freccero signed) and J (Guebelin) with bracelets. Would love a G or P, but they may be hard to find!!! It uses Patek Philippe's very first self-winding caliber – 12-600 AT I wish Patek would bring back the db (upside down) on the crown! 2526R 2526J

Any 2526 owners current or former?
I am wondering how the experience has been. Falling in love with the reference, searching… searching…
