Believe it or not, I found this little guy stuffed in an old box belonging to my late grandfather! I did take the watch to get authenticated at my local Patek AD and it turns out this watch is in fine condition considering the less than ideal way it had been preserved. It has been difficult to find out much about this watch. I know the steel Calatrava watches are especially rare. At a Sotheby's auction in 2003 a steel ref. 438 sold for 12,000. I have thought about selling this via an auction house, but as you know they take a fairly significant pound of flesh... This watch is 28mm in diameter; is in good condition (though the crystal and case need some aesthetic attention). When I took the watch to the AD, the watchmaker there halted the movement as it needs some basic cleaning and oiling to insure it runs safely. I am mostly interested in a trade with cash coming to me at this point. I love vintage sports model watches, but open to any sort of trade. I estimate the trade value at 10k, but am open to offers. As is pretty obvious, this is a 'raising the flag and see who salutes' sort of post. So please get back to me with any feedback!
