Sellers Comments: I have for sale a fine and rare Patek Philippe
ref. 1578 in yellow gold, cal. 27 SC, manufactured in 1955, and first
sold in January of 1956. This beautiful and unusual watch just returned
from Switzerland where it received a full movement overhaul (complete
disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly), and a light case polishing. As
one would expect, it performs extremely well, and looks outstanding.
The movement is, of course, in superb condition. The case has been
polished, as mentioned above, but retains its beautiful lines, and is
in very good overall condition. It is 34mm excluding the crown. The dial is in excellent condition, and
is truly striking, as you can see in the attached images. The contrast
of the blued second hand is a particularly nice feature. There are,
however, some very fine lines (tiny cracks) between the two and three
hour markers. This minor flaw is very difficult to pick up with the
naked eye, does nothing to detract from the beauty of the watch, but
must be mentioned. The watch is fitted with a brand new Patek Philippe
leather strap, and a correct, vintage yellow gold PP buckle.

1578 watches with this unusual dial variation rarely show up on the
open market, especially in this condition. I have priced it at $12,500.00, a level
which I believe to be very fair, and, given the weakness of the dollar,
extremely attractively to European collectors. Shipping and insurance
costs will be the responsibility of the buyer. The watch will include
an official archive extract from Patek Philippe, as well as a receipt
reflecting the recent service.
The watch is located in the metro
NYC area, and can be viewed in person by local interested parties. I
can also provide further images to those with a serious interest.
Finally, I would prefer an outright sale, but
might
consider a trade, or partial trade for another vintage Patek, or
possibly a fine vintage Vacheron & Constantin, or vintage Audemars
Piguet.
