Description

Ref: 20368/2

This is a Polerouter from 1960s, in stainless steel. Inside beats a calibre 218-69 movement; an upgraded automatic self-winding microrotor, with a 55-hour power reserve. The Polerouter model name was in recognition of UG's work with the Scandinavian Air Service (SAS); with the SAS pioneering a new route from Europe to USA, flying over the North Pole, and shortening the conventional route significantly down to 22 hours from 36.

The DNA of the Polerouter traces back to the legendary Gerald Genta and features a 34mm case with 'Bombe' twisted lugs. The crosshair dial takes a page from the 1950s, with a fluid, fluted chapter ring and strong hour indices. It has a silver radium dial and silver Dauphine hands, with the tritium plots developing lovely patina and remaining completely intact. Ref 20368/2 is a non-date variant, which gives the overall aesthetics of the watch a balanced outlook.

Sold as watch only, with the pictured vintage style strap included with sale. Service history is unknown, but it is running well and keeping good time.

- 34mm case with twisted lugs
- Sharp case (with reference and serial # clearly stamped on caseback)
- 2.3 mil serial

📖 About This Reference

The reference 20368/2 represents Universal Geneve's Polerouter in a steel configuration, positioned within the model's core offerings. This reference features a white dial configuration and belongs to the Steel series within the Polerouter lineup. The 34mm steel case houses an automatic movement and utilizes an acrylic crystal. The watch incorporates a fixed bezel design and provides 30 meters of water resistance. The white dial creates contrast against the steel case construction. This reference appeals to collectors seeking a mid-sized Universal Geneve timepiece with automatic winding capability. The 34mm case size and steel construction make it suitable for those preferring classic proportions and traditional materials. The white dial option provides an alternative within the Polerouter range for collectors favoring lighter dial tones.

What watch would you wear
Collecting pieces from the vintage era (50's-70's) such as a polerouter, enicar, or bubble back can signal one's love for collecting without spending a lot. Item should be recognizable by collectors and under 10k.

Another "Online-barnfind" kind of watch :)
The author encountered challenges finding a Polerouter due to market flaws. Finally, a promising 'honest watch' was found in poor condition but all-original. Plans to service the movement and polish the crystal while maintaining its original appearance.

My first Gerald Genta and second incoming for 2018 - the Universal Geneve White Shadow Ultra Slim
In addition to the iconic Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus, and Watches bearing his own name, Gerald Genta designed pieces for brands from Bulova to Seiko. One he had quite some involvement with appears to be Universal Geneve (Polerouter anyone?). Mine is a later model, namely t
