For years the prices for the Dato were stable. Mid 2021 Watchbox aquired langepedia and within two months the prices doubled. I truly believe a couple of huge grey dealers silently stock piled Dato's and pushed the prices.
That being said, if you look at the current market, the dato's are still reasonably priced. (considering the fact that a simple Aquanaut is over 100K nowadays)

There's a lot more scholarship evolving in the collecting world of Lange. And rarity almost always translates into desirability.
Mine is with "Meter" only as well but in addition has a very special Minute Counter hand :-)
Accoring to the Lange Boutique it could well be the result of a mistake during assembly: the watchmaker took the hand for the second counter for the minute counter, too - it is the same hand. Nice detail: during a factory service Lange&Söhne did not chang...
It looks like the wanted to align the 'B' in 'Base' with...
...the '400' and then ran out of room at '240.' The solution would be to to make the text smaller or condense it a bit. I think it adds some charm : )
Also the font along the chrono subdials is fatter vs the later "meters" dial..
I have a "meter" dial datograph as you know and it will be the watch that will be on my wrist when the good Lord eventually takes me.

May be my all time favorite. Fresh new movement, establishment of als, platinum. All tops. This was the best iteration.

One of my favorite watches as well.
I too would have liked to have acquired mine before the recent price surge. Not sure that this one is due to price manipulation, but more so a much deserved recognition of the watch's significance.
