A. Lange & Söhne

Hi Stere, it is understandably upsetting to receive such shocking news about a brand you've held in such high regard! I hope you feel calmer today.

As you learned, the boutique staff cannot help with this. You must talk with someone at a higher level. The advice you received from Speedie74 (Adam) is spot-on. That's what you should do. It will be very surprising if Lange ends up requiring to you pay anything close to 10 grand to perform only the work that is truly necessary.

I see from Lange's website that a Lange 1 is in Price Group 2. This means an "overhaul/complete service" costs approximately 1300 Euro (1900 Euro with case refurbishment), and a "repair" (which includes the overhaul/complete service) costs approximately 3500 Euro (4350 Euro with case refurbishment). I know you are aware of this information already. I mention it only to benefit others.

For context, a few other owners reported similar experiences in the past year or so. They received outrageously high, confusing quotes from Glashutte that were far above the (still high but expected) pricing shown on Lange's website. These quotes contained optional/suggested line items that were very costly, and it was difficult to tell which items were truly necessary versus suggested/optional. Perhaps this is your situation. I hope so!

Also, if possible and comfortable for you, it would be very helpful if you could post a picture of all repair documents that you received from Lange -- the itemized list of what is "necessary," "suggested/optional," costs, etc.. Then we can see exactly what you saw, and we can try to turn this into a helpful learning experience for all of us. Of course, if you can do this, you should first conceal or remove all identifying details from the paperwork.

Please update us to tell us what happens, and best of luck with this!
