A. Lange & Söhne

For me, auction results of RARE pieces are about more than just money...

Thanks for your honest comments! As the person who posted these auction results, I'll explain my thinking.

I find these particular auction results interesting because they provide a rare public reflection of the desirability of several long-discontinued, seldom seen Lange timepieces. Personally, I would not post auction results if say a standard-production platinum Datograph or gold Lange 1 had been auctioned (unless it sold for an unusually high or low price, which is interesting). Why? Because those watches are bought and sold all the time on the secondary market, so such results would generally be uninteresting to me. So for me, auction results of Lange watches are interesting if (1) the watches are rare, or (2) the sale prices are unusually high or low if the watches are not rare. In this case, condition (1) is true. These auctions provide us with an opportunity to look at and think about watches that many of us don't see very much at all. You said you're a newbie, so you may not realize that a stainless steel Lange 1 is a watch that even avid Lange collectors probably will never see in person. And most Lange collectors won't see an 1815 Moonphase either. So that was my thinking in posting those results.

Thanks again for your comments, and I hope you keep posting on PuristsPro Lange Forum!
