I emailed Lange to ask them to resolve this issue and they replied:
"Our model RICHARD LANGE has a free-sprung system (non index balance system). Therefore, the swan neck fine regulation is not used for the regulation of the spring's length like in the traditional system, but only for the beat adjustment. So it is still needed. The oscillation of the balance wheel is individually set with the help of the eccentric poising weights on the balance wheel.

Gorgeous photos - one correction
Lange's variable-inertia balances are indeed free-sprung - what looks like a swan-neck adjuster is in fact a beat adjustment mechanism. You'll notice if you compare this mechanism to Lange watches with the traditional screwed balance that the two adjuster...
I stand corrected,
...and I can see now that they are indeed different. But what, prey, is a beat adjustment mechanism? Isn't that the same thing as a regulator? If the balance is free-sprung, how does the new mechanism adjust the beat rate? Cheers Tony P

the beat adjuster simply sets the impulse pin relative to the pallet fork, while a regulator effectively lengthens and shortens the balance spring in order to control rate. A free-sprung watch achieves its rate through weights on the balance wheel, and do...

Maybe someone else on the forum can elaborate further as to the exact nature of a "beat adjustment mechanism". My guess is that maybe this system fine-tunes beat rate (ie, makes the escapement oscillate slightly slower or faster) via some kind of tensioni...
