It sure took a while, but I finally understand why so many people hail the Rubens Barrichello Offshore as one of the AP greats. I always liked it in photos, but never was tempted to jump on it. In fairness, I first saw a titanium RB2 in January (I know, surprising, but I had never been close to one before) on the wrist of a long time friend who I had just met for the first time. I was rather mesmerized by it but did not get to handle it. In the SIHH whirlwind and all of the subsequent reporting, I was able to push it out of mind. But when I again came close to the RB2 on the AP Factory trip, I finally got to examine it. I was hooked right away. Seeing it on display in the AP Museum was the last straw, and I knew I would get the watch.
As it turns out, a dear friend had one completely NOS. No better way to finally grab the watch than to get a truly unworn sample. So, it has not come off over the first few weeks (well, I did grab the tools to throw it on an extra Survivor strap for summer). There is plenty to say about this piece, but for now I'm happily speechless...
