I guess by then the name and reputation was so badly mauled that they felt it would not sell, irrespective of inherent qualities...
As luck would have it, I took a video of a Fiero recently
Pontiac Fiero this very clean car was sold for about $2500 at the beginning of this year. It was a great little car with V6 engine

I traded my Z28 for a Fiero GT back in the late 80's my father was not impressed!
The best way to put it, after a week I missed my Z28 :)
