995cc 3-cylinder with forged pistons (slightly oval), two rings, cracked rod caps vs cut, so they fit perfectly when bolted on, indexed spark plug electrode and threads, so the spark is in Exactly the Right Place in the chamber, etc etc.
Alloy body structure and panels (some plastic) for Extremely Light Weight at 1850 lbs (840 kg), aerodynamic and green/clean including EPA 61 miles per US gallon, 73 per UK or 3.9L/100 km.
Every other car since is bigger, heavier, thirstier and (usually) less fun.

Relatively cheap ... but very cheap compared to any other car that maybe gives you the same fun. LSD is not standard but if you buy one of these Clio’s secondhand chances are big you want to overhaul the gearbox. Any good car mechanic can take out the gea...
